Makeup tips for green eyes

If the luck of the Irish is on your side and you have green eyes then consider yourself a rarity because green eyes are the least common eye colour in the world!  You're ranked alongside famous emerald eye beauties like, Dita Von Teese, Kristen Stewart, Jessica Biel, and Aishwarya Rai but if you struggle to make the most of your emerald eyes then read on for some quick, easy tips to make your eyes sparkle.

Play with Purples
If you look at the colour wheel purple is opposite the green, that means purple is the perfect complimentary colour for you green eyed gals so try making your eyes pop with shades of purple.  If you want to widen close set eyes then apply a deep plum colour towards the outer edges of your eyes and a light purple towards your inner eye.  If you have droppy, or hooded eyes then do the opposite.  If purple seems a little too much for you then try using a gray/lavender shadow to bring out the green of your eyes.

Avoid silver, blue and black
If you want to follow the latest trend and go metallic then make sure you avoid silver or blue shades.  These shades are not going to make your eyes pop and while you're avoiding blues and silver leave the black eyeliner at home!  Black can be too harsh for green eyes but don't worry you can still achieve that smokey, rock chick look just swap your black for chocolate brown or espresso, trust us, your eyes will thank you for it!

Embrace the Bronze Age
Warm tones such as bronze, gold and copper work great for any shade of green eyes or skin tone and can really deepen the colour of your eyes.  Use it for a complete smokey eye look or just apply a bit of bronze or copper in the middle of your lid for a little shimmer and shine.  If you're looking for a more subtle metallic look then opt for a brown or dark green eyeshadow with flecks of bronze or gold for that perfect daytime look.

I have green eyes and it's interesting that purples, gold and browns/bronze/copper and the colours I tend to wear most on my eyes :)

the most rare colour wow!! there are 5 of us in my immediate family with super green eyes (see my profile pic to see what i mean) - for most my life i thought it came from the scottish ancestry - until 2 years ago my nana mentions it actually stems from a random French ancestor via my Maori side!! Genetics are amazing! - thanks for the tips - need to get me a chocolate brown eyeliner ASAP

I love bronze, gold and copper - when I was a bridesmaid those colours were used. When I tried to do a similar look myself I couldn't make it work. LOVE my purples though!

Aw lucky for those with green eyes. Not sure if I remember it right, but apparently green eyes are due to a mutation - a good one too! I just have the brown eyes, so will be using green colours to bring them out more.

I love having green eyes. I love wearing purple eyeshadow, but I all so love copper tones and red tones. The best thing to do is play with colour!

I love green eyes it's my favorite eye color. I would love purple but it's so rare I haven't met anyone with that color. Never wore colored contacts though. My dad has this bluish green eyes which none of us kids inherited had been half Thai. It's interesting last year I was buying some eye makeup for my friends and suddenly I realized everyone I was buying for had green or greenish eyes. So that made it easy to narrow the colors, I choose mostly neutrals and a violet eyeliner and my best friend got a lovely plum shade.

Great tips, I have hazel eyes and never entirely sure how to choose the right makeup to really make them stand out. These help. Thanks so much :-)

I have greenish eyes some days, but they're usually a blue hue. I normally rock a powder pale purple or a green shadow, and sometimes a warm brown smokey. I am a little confused by the comment about the colours making green eyes 'pop' I thought that was a good thing??
