Mamma Mia - why we love Chia!

Superfoods.  Y'all know what a superfood is right?  A nutrient-rich food considered to be especially beneficial for health and well-being.  Well one of the biggest superfoods around is the teeny, tiny Chia Seed.  It's packed full of more essential fatty acids than any other known plant.  For real.  It's also loaded with magnesium, iron, calcium and potassium.  But as well as sprinkling it on your muesli or blitzing it into a smoothie, you can use Chia in your beauty routine.  Well Chia Seed Oil that is.

Yes, if you press 1kg of chia seeds you'll get 250ml of one of the most lightweight, yet nutrient packed skin oils you've ever encountered!

Now we're not suggesting you press your own Chia Seed Oil, you don't need to, Kiwi brand Goodness has already done it for you.  Look how cute that little dropper bottle is!

Why is Chia Seed Oil good for my skin?

So the human body as wonderful as it is, sucks at making the fatty acids Omega 3 and Omega 6, which are actually essential to our health.  This means we have to actively ADD them to our diet.

Chia Seed Oil contains the magic ratio 3-to-1 of Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids.  Omega-3 and Omega-6 are essential for the formation of cell membranes which protect every cell in the body.  Now as you probably know, most cells are so small you can't really see them, but skin cells are visable.  Skin cells keep moisture in and water out, and its these fatty acids that keeps our barrier, our skin cells, soft, supple and strong.  If you don't have enough fatty acids your skin cells will become weak, dry and flakey.  You'll also be more prone to wrinkles.

So by using Chia Seed Oil as a topical application you're giving your skin an injection of essential fatty acids, minerals, B-vitamins, amino acids and antioxidants - all the things your skin needs to do its job.

What is Chia Seed Oil like?

It's a really lightweight, pale yellow oil with a mild nutty smell.  The smell disappears really quickly upon absorption so even the fussiest of noses shouldn't mind it.

How do I use Chia Seed Oil?

After cleansing and before moisturising - it's really that simple!  Pat a few drops onto your face and let it soak in completely.  The general Beauty Crew consensus is twice a day, but I like to carry a bottle with me for those particularly dry days.

I have oily skin, should I be using an oil?

YES!  Don't worry about adding more oil to oily skin - just remember science - like attracts like.  So the oil in the balm removes excess sebum from your skin, without stripping it.  Chia Seed Oil is suitable for all skin types.

Is it expensive?  Where do I buy it from?

20ml is about $24 and as you only use a few drops at a time it'll last ages.  You can pick it up from your local Famers or supermarket!

Can I find Chia Seed Oil in other products?

As well as their Certified Organic Chia Seed Oil, every other product in the Goodness range is also packed with Chia Seed Oil.  Check out the full Goodness range here.  Whether you go for the oil or one of the other products give Chia Seed Oil a go - you won't regret it!

I love this oil! I was lucky enough to win a set of the goodness skincare range and love it. The oil is amazing - lightweight but efficient. Leaves my skin soft and has definitely helped with my dryness.

I've recently started using this product and I'm loving it so far! I use it at night after I have showered and my skin is looking so much fresher and feels much more hydrated in the mornings!

Yes I've used it and products with it in. That and rosehip are featuring more and more in skincare I'm using.

Yes - I just finished up my bottle of Goodness chia oil and I absolutely loved it! Definitely would repurchase.

I never try chia seed and don't know about benefits for skin. Would definitely will try in future.

I've tried this oil and it's lovely :)

I'm currently using rosehip oil but I want to try chia oil. I didn't know how light it is compared to rosehip I thought it would be a heavier oil because of the high fatty acid content but it's good to know that it's recommended for oily skin.

I absolutely love face oils, however I have never used Chia Seed Oil before. But I think you have sold me as it sounds amazing so I might have to go pick this up when my current oil runs out.

I have this oil and use it daily! I notice the difference in my skin! My skin has been so hydrated since I've started using this oil. LOVE IT!

Never tried Chia Seed Oil, I know that a lot of people use the Chia Seeds in their diet though. Sounds great, would love to try the Organic Chia Seed Oil :)

I've never used or heard of using chia seed oil for a beauty regime, colour me curious. I've been using rosehip oil for the last couple of weeks and have been finding it a bit heavy for my skin, perhaps this would be a lighter alternative.

I have eaten chia seeds and used in drinks but have never used the serum -This sounds like a must try.

19th June, 2017

I love oils but have never tried chia seed. It does sound amazing so I really should! I do however eat chia seeds everyday, they are sooooo good for you. Will check this out on grocery day.

I've never used Chia Seed Oil before but I have used products with some sort of Chia Seed extract like the Goodness Be Cool Mist Toner. I'm all about being kinder to my skin and I can't ignore that this product is TOP RATED by the BR lovelies so I'm going to look into this at some stage.

I have oily skin so I really appreciate the wee segment on that; I wonder if it's overkill to have Chia Seed Oil then my (super duper favourite) A'Kin Brightening Rosehip Oil with Vitamin C. I guess I'll just have to be patient between applications before sealing it in with my moisturiser.
