Is anyone else a little bit gun shy about getting anything dramatic done to their head of hair since we've experienced lockdowns? Afraid that a bold move from blonde to brown, or simply the joys of grey regrowth, could result in walking around with a skunk stripe down the middle of your head as it grows out, should another form of lockdown that sees hairdressers close occurs?
I don't know about you, but despite hearing another lockdown is not in the plans, this still plays on my mind. Despite that, I do want to liven up my locks. To pamper myself. To look in the mirror and do a silent wolf whistle of appreciation, which is why for the foreseeable I'm going to embrace the babylight hair colouring technique.
So what are babylights, and why do we need them more than ever right now? Read on...
What are babylights?
Babylights are highlights that are designed to create a super natural look, like that on which you'd see on a child's head of hair. (Oh how I miss the hair that I sported as a three year old. Photos reveal that it had the most delicious golden tones scattered throughout it.)
How are babylights created?
Instead of highlighting a decent chunk of hair, your hair stylist will take a smaller amount of strands, just a few at a time, and apply a colour that will work with and blend naturally into your main hair colour. Application will be focused around your hairline, your natural part, as well as at the ends of your hair, which ought to be a touch lighter again.
Is it for me?
Absolutely! Babylights can be achieved on short or long hair, thin or thick hair, straight or curly hair. We love a look that can be rocked by all!
And the result?
The result is that coveted 'she's been out in the sun' lightened look that is so subtle no one will know it saw you sit for a few hours in a chair. Even better? It grows out gloriously, which means should the worst come to pass and a lockdown of some sort occur, you won't be mistaken for a human version of Pepé Le Pew as you head out to do a grocery shop or your daily spot of exercise. And even if the worst does not come to pass? It means you can space out your touch ups and won't have to spend hours and a small fortune sitting in the hairdresser's chair more regularly... and, baby, that's the kind of hair look I'm here for!
