Emperor! Get your clothes on! You're nudie!!
That's what I feel like shouting whenever I hear a YouTuber or TikTokker talking about the "latest" makeup trend: latte makeup. You see, to my eyes, latte makeup is just another name for a beautiful, bronzey look. A look that's been in and out of fashion for decades. That being said, it's nice to see a resurgence of a look that's as classic as the coffee the "new" trend's named after. So who's responsible for the renewal of bronzed-up looks? And how can you achieve "latte makeup"?
The returning popularity of warm, brown tones can be credited to Tiktokker, Rachel Rigler, who coined the phrase, describing "latte makeup" as "warm and bronzey. Milky and effortless". I'm not sure about the "milky", but it sure is warm and bronzey.... and absolutely stunning. So, how can you recreate the latte makeup look and get your bronzed babe on?
Base
While Rachel's all about the minimal coverage for your base - and prefers to use a lightweight foundation, BB cream or tinted moisturiser, in this case we say "you do you". We don't all have perfect skin, and some of us feel more comfortable with a heavier coverage or more matte look. So do your face base as you usually would, then take a concealer and apply it to the areas where (and if) it's needed.
Bronze
To latte up your face, take a cream or powder bronzer in a warm brown shade, and apply anywhere where the sun would naturally hit - think the cheekbones, the bridge of your nose, and around the perimeter of your forehead.
Rachel prefers not to use blush when doing latte makeup, but we would beg to differ, as a hint of a neutral but warm-toned blush can add a beautiful pop of colour, that will level up the look while bringing a touch more dimension to your face.
Eyes
The joy of a bronzey look is that you can make it as simple or as step-heavy as you like. You could simply take your bronzer and apply it all over your lid. Or you could place a matte brown shadow into your crease and on the outer corner of your lid, then add a bronzey shimmer onto your eyelid and call it done. Or you could use a lighter brown shadow as a transition shade, add a dark brown shade at the outer edge, pop a bronze shadow on the centre of your lid, and a warm champagne shimmer in the inner corner, followed by a dark shadow along your upper and bottom lashlines, and a dark brown eyeliner in your waterline, and call that... er, really done. Either way, finish up your eye look with a coat or two of mascara. And call it definitely done.
Lips
You can go two ways with latte makeup on the lips. Rachel's way, or another way. Rachel took the excess CC cream she had on her beauty blender and bounced it over her lips, then lined them with a nude lip liner and followed it up with a clear lip gloss. Alternatively, you can use a neutral lipstick in a nude shade, with or without a lip liner, with or without clear gloss on top.
And that's the beauty of "latte makeup" or bronze makeup, as I prefer to think of it. It's as simple or as complicated as you want it to be. It uses colours that are easy to find. Colours that most makeup lovers - or even makeup beginners - have in their collections. It's rich. It's sophisticated. It's delicious. Just like a latte.

This looks really nice, I always look better with a bit of colour on my face.
