Is there anything as luxurious as lying in a bath brimming with warm water, fluffy with bubbles, glass of red on one side, lit candle wafting its scent about on the other, Kindle in hand. Bliss. Unless of course you’ve a three year old in the bath with you, in which case it’s a recipe for disaster.

Once upon a time I could’ve entered competitive bathing, if there were such a thing. The hours I clocked up soaking myself verged on embarrassing, but oh, the sweet relaxation and decadent me-time of floating in water whilst ignoring the world. And then I had a child and the time was spent rushing through a shower before she woke up. Then the blessed child discovered baths. More to the point she discovered bubbles.

Game on.

A new competitive bather was born. In fact it’s become a team sport, with the two of us hopping in the bath for as long as humanly possible. (The little miss holds the current record with three hours.) During that time we’ve had much fun experimenting with ways to make bath time even more enjoyable. From bubbles and bombs to crayons and crystals. So what gets the Mini-Pixie Fist Pump of Approval?

Bubbles. The more the merrier. We’ve had Frozen Bubble Bath. Arome Ambiance bubble bath. LUSH bubbles in all sorts of forms and varieties. Earthwise Bubble Bath. Ecostore Bubble Bath. If it’s caught our eye we’ve bought it. Well, apart from some of those ones specially designed for younger children that are meant to smell like bubblegum or something ‘cute’ but kind of smell like dried puke. We skipped those. By ‘we’ I mean ‘I’. The joy of bubbles knows no bounds – piling them up into bubble mountains, making bubble beards, blowing them into each other’s faces. It’s a good time.

Bath Bombs are… well… the bomb. The spectacle of seeing a ball fizz and bubble never gets old, especially when there’s a colour – or many colours involved. Especially when those colours turn the bath a bright blue, or princess pink. The little human’s favourite? Intergalactic by LUSH, followed by their Golden Egg – because it leaves you covered in golden glitter. So pretty. If it comes out next Easter I’m stockpiling.  We’ve also tried bath bombs from The Honeybunch Shop, bombs we’ve picked up at craft markets. Basically if it’s round, fizzes and comes into view it’s scooped up for a bath date.

Of course, what would a bathing session be without a little creativity? And even us big kids can have fun with… bath crayons.!!!The only limit is your imagination and your tolerance for water as it grows colder with every masterpiece you create.

She Who Thinks She Rules the Roost doesn’t approve, but I’m a huge fan of adding Epsom salts to the bath after a week of boxing the Best Beauty Box Ever up with the Beauty Pixies in the warehouse. It may not be scented, or look pretty, or have bubbles, but boy does it soothe away the aches – and since the little human won’t jump into a boring looking bath it means Mummy can have a little me time - Kindle, glass of wine, candle, and all.

So do tell? Are you a bathing beauty? What do you like to pop in your bath? Are there any products we need to know about? Chat away!

A bath surrounded by candles, reading a book is my happy place! And Lush bath products are my guilty pleasure! If I'm feeling really flirty and fun I can use one with glitter or sparkles, if I feel christmasy I throw in a Yog Nog, and if I feel cold and sore, throw in a lavender. The fact that you've introduced your daughter to the wonders of the bath is awesome!! Another good Lush product for kids is the playdough-like soap. It comes in several colours with the purpose of being able to be creative while in the bath - have fun you two!!

Don't take baths often but when I do, Epsom salts are a total luxury

My flatmate has really got me into the Epsom Salt bath's this year. She swears by adding baking soda to 'purify' the water before adding the salts, so that the body doesn't absorb any nasties from the tap water. I also love adding different oils- such as eucalyptus after I've been to the gym to help soothe any aches. Other than that anything Lush is right up my alley!!

I'm in the same club as you! Gone are the days spend wallowing in the tub by myself now I', joined by my almost 3 year old daughter who fortunately loves Lush bath bombs as much as me - so much so that I've got to the point where I cut them in two as we go through so many!

Am I the only one that's not such a bath fan? What am I doing wrong? If I do have one I shower before as I feeling like otherwise you are sitting in your own filth :/

I'm so jealous! I really miss having a long relaxing soak in a nice hot bubble bath. Our new house only has a shower.

Really makes me wish I lived in a flat that has a bath. I love baths - especially in winter!

2nd July, 2016

I love my baths but during the winter our bathroom is like a freezer so baths are a no go. My kids love my lush bath collection as much as I do and it usually keeps them entertained in the bath, they love the Fun range. I like the look of the crayons! I would even consider using them hahaha

2nd July, 2016

I like things like lush products that make the bath look, smell and feel nice. I would like to try some other brands though.

Years ago I moved into a house that had been split into flats. It had a huge bath which was fantastic BUT the hot water cylinder couldn't even fill it up half way use to have to boil pots of hot water and jugs to top it up and make it hot enough ...... Now that's bath dedication for you

1st July, 2016

Gosh how I miss having a bath! It has been years since I have had one. I will have to visit my daughter who has just moved into a house with a bath!!

Interesting I actually was reading this right on the night I'm planning a bath. I'm going to use my bath bombs from the Honeybunch shop. I do love a good bubble bath but with so many people in my house if you use up too much hot water you hear about it from the person who has a cold shower next. So baths are more like a rare treat for me. I'm fairly new to a lot of bath stuff as most of the stuff for baths I heard about after I moved out of a house with a bathtub.

I love bath time. After we have done painting we mix dishwasher or baby shampoo with the left over paint in our paint tray and continue painting the shower walls it makes clean up so much more fun, easier and no wasted paints either.

1st July, 2016

I wish that you could still buy Badedas bubble bath from the chemist. That stuff was amazing!

1st July, 2016

Omg...a bath oriented post! I love a soak. I too love anything bath focussed from Lush, also Radox bubbles and bath salts, epsom salts and essential oils, ( lavender, vetiver or eucalyptus), Alpha Keri oil, or even milk powder and either essential oils or rose water. (Also nice when applied as a paste to be a face mask). I like to soak away my week, have a face mask and listen to some sounds...bliss.
