You know what's overated? The idea that Valentine's Day has to be celebrated with someone else. Lover schmover. Who needs to rely on the validation of another when we can take the day and love ourselves a little extra than we usually would?
So what can we do to bestow an extra layer of self-love upon ourselves? Here's some ideas we adore!
Get a full body massage.
Usually a neck and shoulder gal? Normally get your back done but not your legs? Why not treat yourself and go the whole shebang. Unknot all that is knotted. Enjoy full body relaxation, then walk away on cloud nine.
Pick yourself some flowers.
Spending a small fortune at a florist is always an option, but there's something to be said for a gentle walk around your neighbourhood, snagging the odd flower as you go until you've got a pretty posy. (Pro tip: only pick flowers hanging over fences. If it's in someone's property it's a no go. No one needs a trespass order slapped upon them on any day of the week, let alone V-Day).
Take yourself out to dinner.
Who said dinner must be for two on Valentine's Day? Grab your favourite mag, bring along a book, bring your earbuds and mobile phone and bury yourself in a good read or podcast while noshing on your favourite food.
Make it a movie night - for one!
Movies were made for one! Let's be honest, there's nothing more annoying than watching a movie with someone who talks or laughs too loud or nudges you every five minutes pointing something out you can clearly see for yourself because the movie screen is massive. At least alone you can catch every word, see every action, then walk out without dealing with an unwanted opinion. Best. Valentine's. Day. Date. EVER.
Do something you've always wanted to do.
What you do is up to you, but if there's something you've always wanted to do - perhaps get a pedicure, a manicure, a new hair colour, go skydiving or whale watching - but couldn't justify the time or cost, today's the day to do it! Treat yo'self!
Pay a visit to a jeweller.
Who needs a significant other to buy you bling when you can do it yourself? It doesn't even have to cost the earth. It just needs to be a little trinket that reminds you how much you love yourself!
Write yourself a love letter.
Love letters never go out of fashion - and one's to yourself are the best. Tell yourself how glad you are to have you in your life, write down all your amazing traits, make sure to sign it with 'all my love', then keep it somewhere special for those days when you need to give yourself a glowy warm feeling.
So, our beauties, how will you be celebrating Valentine's Day? Will you show yourself some love? Will you share it with others (treating friends and fam totally counts!)? And do you have other ways of pampering yourself we need to know about?

I forget it even exists most years, but I’m good at buying my own chocolate and jewellery all year round :p
