Why You Need To Smell Like Tea!

Gumboot, Earl Grey, Lady Grey, Green, Chamomile – I do adore a good cup of tea. In fact tea is one of the beverages that fuels BRHQ. It’s soothing to the soul, warming to the body, has just enough caffeine to keep you chugging along without coming down with a case of the shakes, and when put in the right hands it also becomes totally squirtable!

Yes, tea is becoming one of our firm favourite ingredients in perfumes, and though we’ve been loving certain scents for a while, we had no idea just how prolific it was.

In 1992 Bulgari launched Eau Parfumée au Thé Vert, which featured base notes of green tea. Such was it’s success that in inspired a whole line, including Eau Parfumée au Thé Blanc, which featured white tea, Eau Parfumée au Thé Rouge which employed extracts of Roiboos and Yunnan, then this year Bulgari launched a new fragrance inspired by Chinese Oolong Tea, Eau Parfumée au Thé Bleu.

Elizabeth Arden was also an early adopter of using tea in fragrances, bringing out the delightfully refreshing Green Tea in 1999, a scent that continues to this day and now features a whole line of perfumes and skincare based around the original.

So who else has taken our most beloved beverage and incorporated it into a perfume?

While not waving the ‘I’m a tea-fragrance’ flag, the truly divine (and a fav of BR’s Head Pixie) Still Jennifer Lopez is infused with notes of earl grey, along with sake, mandarin, freesia, and sandalwood.

Kenzo’s Eau De Fleur De Thé, which is part of Kenzo’s Les Eaux De Fleur Collection, presents you with delicious aromas of tea blossom wrapped with green tea.

Meanwhile Givenchy’s Ange Ou Demon Le Secret harnesses the divine aroma of jasmine tea and white flowers to create a fruity yet fresh perfume.

After a reviving hit of your favourite earl? Check out Jo Malone’s Earl Grey & Cucumber Cologne, a hit with both men and women.

Hmmm all this talk of tea and perfumes and perfumes featuring tea has got me wondering if anyone has brought out a perfume inspired by our other go-to beverage, Coke Zero? I could get on board with that.  So are you a fan of tea fragrances or do you prefer your tea in a cup? Do you own any tea fragrances? Are you tempted?

I do like a cup of tea, although haven't tried many tea fragrances..may need to change that!

Some green tea fragrances do smell really fresh and nice. I do remember a time in Asia when green tea was trending in scents and flavors. I have had some green tea scented bodycare before, I don't know all the notes in all my perfume minis but I am looking to buy a mini of Hugo Boss Woman which has notes of black tea in it.

I am not entirely sure about this, might have to go scent exploring at Farmers to see what it's all about :)

I've never smelled a fragrance with tea notes before, but sounds delightful.

I own Earl Grey and Cucumber by Jo Malone and it is amazing! I love it in summer as it is really refreshing and lovely. I especially love layering it over a rose scent for another sort of scent. So lovely and makes me want more Jo Malone fragrances that is for sure.

Love a goood cuppa. I'm not a fan of EA's frageance but have bought a bottle of Bvlgari's Eau The Vert. Mainly because I do like the subtlety od their fragrances...and because a character in a favourite series of books wears it lol. (It is a unisex fragrance). I'm planning on wearing it this simmer. The J.Lo fragrance intrigues me. I like the description. The Body Shop has recently released a Green Tea set. It's also quite nice. V.fresh. However, the bath tea is quite ridiculously priced.

I've used the Elizabeth Arden Green Tea (it was a gift)... it was ok, not my most favourite perfume but I think that's more due to personal taste :)

Interesting ingredient in perfume but I can understand why it's so calming and awesome! I too love tea and now that I have read this I am on the hunt for a tea ingrediented fragrance on my next trip to Farmers :D

I absolutely love Elizabeth Arden Green Tea. I have gone through 4 bottles it is definitely one of my favorites. Funny though I don't like tea or coffee but I can drink green tea with lemon makes it more tasty and good for you! :)

I love my Dilmah tea, Earl Grey tastes and smells horrible.

Elizabeth Arden's Green tea was a nice perfume but always seemed unusual to think of tea in a perfume. I love different teas to drink but not Earl Grey as it tastes too perfumed to drink.

I am a green tea fan and have had green tea everyday for over twenty years. I will have to look at getting a perfume with green tea, hope it is compatible with my skin.

I love a good cuppa! However I've never smelt it in a fragrance before...this I will investigate though! :)

I'm an old school lover of Elizabeth Arden green tea, I wore it for years. Have been meaning to pick up another bottle again but the longevity is rubbish :(

I should probably also add that the fruit teas I like to drink smell delicious even thought the scent doesn't transulate into the flavor of the drink.
