There are many excellent reasons to colour your hair at home - the ease, the time saved, and let's not forget the cost! Colouring your hair at a salon, especially if you need it touched up regularly, requires - for some of us - a money tree to be growing in our backyard! The trouble with colouring your hair at home though is that with so many brands and variations on the market it can be difficult to know which one to choose! Which will give vibrant colour? Which will last the longest? Which offers the best quick fix for those times when you don't have a chance to colour your hair fully at home, let alone make the time to do so at a salon!?
Luckily for us, the Beauty Review members have come to our resuce by trying and reviewing all manner of hair colour! So which get the Top Rated badge tick of approval? Read on!
1. Schwarzkopf Brilliance
RATED: 4.4/5!
Beauty Review Member GingerVonFoxx says: This was the first dye I ever tried at the age of 31 and I have never looked back! Beautiful high gloss long lasting colour. Very easy to apply and has excellent coverage.
2. L'Oreal Paris Casting Creme Gloss
RATED: 4.3/5!
Beauty Review Member raquelturner33 says: This was the best dye I have used so far. The colour was deep and rich. It didn't wash out and fade after the first wash. It stayed vibrant for 3 weeks before I had to redo it. This is now my go to dye!!!
3. Schwarzkopf Hair Mascara
RATED: 4.5/5!
Beauty Review Member RachLouise says: Who ever invented hair mascara is a bloody genius! This is so so handy! When I notice a grey hair pop up I can cover it instantly. How convenient right?!
4. La Riche Hair Cosmetics Directions
RATED: 4.4/5
Beauty Review Member thefairydowntown says: I have used it many times and it's always left my hair feeling extremely soft and conditioned. I have used Alpine Green and Midnight Blue and both colours are amazing on my hair and don't fade to an ugly colour.
5. L'Oreal Paris Magic Retouch
RATED: 4.4/5
Beauty Review Member Tarynr says: I've used this product for a few years now as a touch up in between colouring. I am probably about 30% grey and colour dark brunette. It works well to cover grey and you can't tell you're wearing it.
6. Schwarzkopf Colour Specialist
RATED: 4.4/5
Beauty Review Member kelz06 says: I've loved this hair dye. Straight after dying my hair I had 100% grey coverage (yay I'm not ready to be grey yet) and my hair looked beautiful and shiney and felt really smooth.
7. Clairol Nice 'n' Easy

8. Schwarzkopf Live Salon Permanent
RATED: 4.2/5
Beauty Review Member fairyfluff says: This is my go-to at home box hair color. It's very easy to apply, does not have a bad odour or smell and does not fade really fast.
9. L'Oreal Paris Excellence
RATED: 4.2/5
Beauty Review Member Chesire_Cat says: I really like this hair dye, it actually covers my grey hairs, of which there are a number. It's a little more pricey, but I think it's worth it for the longer lasting dye.

I colour my hair at home as I can't afford to go to a salon. I have a couple of favourites and I have also used the Loreal spray to cover roots also
