Not since Keanu Reeves playing with puppies, have I clicked on a video so quickly. The video in question? Vogue's "Jennifer Lopez's Guide To Glowing Skin & Face Contour. I don't mind admitting that I'm obsessed with J-Lo. She's intelligent, talented, a hard worker, and you get the feeling the woman knows her skincare and makeup. Heck, she's probably sat in a makeup chair more times than I've had toast for breakfast, so when she shares her beauty tips, I listen. So what pearls of wisdom did the divine J-Lo gift us with in the Vogue vid? What new things did we learn about her glorious self? Read on...
1. Apply cream contour before your foundation! The amount she puts on is truly terrifying (to me at least), but once the foundation is applied over top, her contour looks gorgeous but natural.
2. When applying your cheek contour, don't go in below the cheekbone, instead apply it a little higher, before blending out, as this will help lift your face.
3. Add contour under your chin. J-Lo calls the area under the chin 'the lightbulb', so she darkens it with contour in order for it not to light up should it catch the light.
4. Once you've contoured, go in with your foundation, but use TWO shades. A shade that matches your overall tone, which you use around the perimeter of your face, followed by a slightly lighter shade that you apply on the light parts of your face - basically the inner third of your face. J-Lo applies this on her forehead, under her eyes, above her upper lip, and down the sides of her nose.
5. Always take the remnants of your foundation down your neck and onto your chest to keep your overall look even.
6. Jennifer's just like the rest of us! Who knew! She may have squillions of dollars but she's not above using regular beauty brands. In the video we see her using the more expensive likes of Tom Ford, and Bobbie Brown, but then she also uses the more affordable(ish) Beauty Blender cream blush, as well as makeup from Fenty, Makeup Forever, and Anastasia Beverly Hills.
7. She picks up tips from TikTok! One that she demonstrates is over-lining your lips just a touch, followed by applying a touch of gloss - aka gym lips!
8. She believes a great makeup look starts with your skin - so get sleep, be rested, be happy, and take care of your skin because the inner glow shows!
9 She's an affirmation queen! She starts and ends her skincare/beauty routine with words of encouragement and self-belief. Repeat after me: I'm a wonderful person and am perfect in my skin. I am deserving of all good things. Abundance and love is attracted to me.
10. Last of all? It sure sounds like she's coming out with her own makeup line in the future!
On that last point, if you're anything like me you may have had a "hold on, don't you already have a makeup line?". Because she did. A capsule collection was released in 2018 by Inglot Cosmetics, but a quick internet search shows it's no longer available, leaving Jennifer Lopez free to continue to expand her empire. Despite my lack of enthusiasm for celeb/influencer beauty brands in general, makeup by J-Lo is one release I'd drop my pingers on because that's something I feel she'd get right.
