The 2015 New Beauty Look Challenge

Article by BR Tabatha

If you've been with us for a while you'll know we love to encourage people to step out of their comfort zone and try a new look.  Why?  Well, because we think it's fun to try something new.  It builds confidence.  It can be empowering.  And with so many fabulous products out there it seems almost silly not to try as any as you can!

We're challenging out members to step out of their comfort zone and try a new beauty look for the New Year.

Here's some ideas to get you started:

Makeup:

  • Lips - change the finish. If you're normally a velvet girl, swap your lip creams for a gloss.  Do you like a dewy skin finish?  Give matte a whirl.
  • Try something that scares you - certain products have a 'scary' reputation.  Blusher for example.  Brow pencils are another.  And yet they can seriously bring the A-game to your makeup look.
  • Switch it up - do you normally make a feature of your eyes?  Try a more muted eye look and amp up your lips.  Or vice-versa, if you're a lip girl, try a neutral tone lippie and rock a winged eyeliner look.
  • Try a new brand - we're all for brand loyalty, but don't forget to enjoy a girl's perrogative to shop around - it might lead to a fabulous new love affair!
  • Ask the experts - next time you're in store ask for a consult or advice on what they think would suit you.

Hair:

  • Try a new do - do you normally pull your hair back in the same old, same old, ponytail day after day?  Try something different - plaits are huge right now and a simple side plait can add a whole new dimension to your usual do.
  • Go for a fringe - if you're like me the only hair on your forehead is that of your brows.  A fringe is a simple way to shake up your style.
  • Say goodbye to your bangs - if you use your bangs to hide behind it's time to lift them up!  You could grow them out, or style them in a pomp or quiff.
  • Go for the chop - long to short doesn't have to be terrifying.  Even losing a few inches can make you feel like a new woman.
  • Add layers - if you really don't want to lose any length ask your stylist to add layers for texture.
  • Change up your colour - try a semi-permanent colour that's gentle on your locks and try something new.
  • Give up the straighteners -  and go for curls, or even your natural hair texture.
  • Part it differently - are you a side part girl?  Dare you to flip it the other way!  Or do you stick with a dead centre part?  Try an off centre messy part.  Go on.  Do it.

Other:

  • Neckline, hemline, sleeve - don't fall into the trap of wearing the same style of neckline, the same length of pants or skirts or the same sleeve style.  It's surprising how a simple change can impact your whole outfit.
  • Frame your face - for a while glasses had a bad rep - but seriously with the incredible range of glasses available you'd be tempted to use fake lens just to rock them!
  • Smells like success - Try a new scent instead of the same thing day after day.  Scent is a powerful thing - it can change your mood, so choose it carefully!

I want and need a change but somethings holding me back I feel like a bon is a good hair style for me at the mo as I'm not doing much with my hair that's complementing me. Help me with my decision....

Difficult - think I should move away from using only bronzes and try using a bit of colour. Just had my hair cut in a different style and a few 'threads' of colour but find that since I have been a member I am trying different things!

I get really excited when trying something new! Last year I finally became a lipstick girl. I was always big on the eyes and matched them with a gloss on the lips. I also began using an eye brow pencil and boy that is the key to looking well groomed in my opinion!

good article - yup, I'm guilty for sticking to the usual... but caught myself reading about plaits yesterday so maybe that's my starting place!

I think I'm going to wear lipstick more often and try to wear eyeshadow too. I usually only wear mascara and a touch of eyeliner.

This is a cool idea- I really want to try a 'scary' product which I

Interesting article. I thought a fringe and bangs were the same thing though lol

The hair, it's all about the hair, have recently added a ceris strip to one side of my pewter grey head of hair, bold for sure, but comments from friends and strangers have been awesome!

Hmmm, I tried a new colour... and I learned that I am not a fan of ash blonde *lol* The worst part is that I went to fix it by buying another, lighter shade of ash blonde...only to realise it's the ash part I don't like about the colour.

I love this! I am currently changing my hair but I am going to dare to change my make up look. I always wing my eyes.... can I cope with a more natural look? can I?? Hahahaha but seriously! The joy of playing with girly things is changing it up! Love this!

I love change so quite frequently try something new. I change my hair constantly! I was having a laugh with one of my friends the other day about how many hairstyles & colours I had in 2014! I'm currently in love with my bright red though so sticking with it for a while.

I started my beauty challenge last year when one of the lovely BR Members (you know who you are sweets) gave me a red Lime Crime Velvetine. Now usually I avoid red lippies like the plague but this one just seemed so lovely and I actually suited it which is super scary for me. I totally stepped out of my comfort zone for that one. I played with hair chalk too, okay so it wasn't hair dye, but a girls got to start somewhere right. I was playing around with purple and pink, thinking I may make it permanent, although have to be careful about certain colours as I'm a student he he he.

For me it'll be the hair. Its long and thin and spends its entire life in a bun or ponytail, nothing else. Guess its time to change it up. And maybe learn how to apply eyeshadow so i can work on changing up my eye looks.
