What determines a ‘trend’? Where does it come from? Who creates it? How do we know what will come next? Sometimes a trend springs up from the rise of a celebrity, such as Kimmy K and her style of contouring. Other times one of us regular type folk might start a trend, say for example in the case of Bella De Lune and her clown contouring. On the whole though it would be fair to say fashion still rules the trend world. What goes down the catwalk will filter down through to the masses. So which 2016 catwalk looks do we think will be standouts next year? Read on…

2016 looks to be one big old fence sitter of a year, with something for everyone. First up there’s the ‘I’m so laid back I didn’t even try’ look, in which bare faces are the style du jour. Now to be clear, this isn’t any ‘no makeup’ makeup look where you’ve spent an hour perfecting your face for it to look natural, this is minimal. Maybe a dash of tinted moisturiser and a hint of gloss and that’s it. Super simple. Team that with the trend for casual hair – so casual that you’ve woken up, run your fingers through your mop and headed off – and you’ve possibly found the easiest beauty trend to mimic ever.

Of course, that super casual look isn’t for everyone, in which case the fresh faced but subtly made up look could be for you. I’m talking flushed cheeks that scream ‘I’ve just had a quick jog round the park.’ Or lips with a hint of rosy colour as if you’ve just bitten them coyly whilst glancing up at the potential love of your life. Hair-wise, you might enjoy the latest braided looks, from tight and structured, through to loose, romantic and framing the face.

Not a fan of casual looks? 2016 has something in its bag of tricks for you too! But first, I have to say this… Beauty Review members, I salute you. I’ve seen a fair few of your rock coloured eyeliner on the Photo Wall already, which makes you trend setters, because coloured eyeliner is set to be big, so don’t ditch those coloured gel liners anytime soon! Not only that, blue eyeshadow, from bright and bold to light and luminous will be seen on fashion-forward lids. Bold lips are back for another year (though can you ever imagine them not being a thing?) And for those of you who like to get playful with their hair, it’s time to dig out your accessories and decorate! Bows, hair scarfs, sparkly barrettes – it’s their time to shine!

One trend we can all have a go at, and one that will suit anyone’s personal style, are French tips. Yep, after being tucked away in the passé closet, they’re back! Best of all they’re style-flexible. Tip your nails with a pop of colour, try some interesting shape or keep them natural. The choice is up to you, and whichever you choose, you’ll be on trend.
So do tell… which looks are your favourite? Will you be trying any? Or are you already so on trend the trends look like has-beens to you? Chat away….
Oooh I love French tips!! I have been growing my nails so I can paint tips on my natural nail but somehow when they're just about as long as I want them, one decided to be uncooperative and break -.-
