At BR HQ we're firm believers that any age is beautiful, and we're accepting of the fact that with age comes, well, the signs of ageing. This doesn't mean we're going to go down the wrinkle road without a fight - whenever a new age-defying product arrives on the market, BR HQ gets interested. From lotions and potions, to out-there (and frankly, horrifying) face masks, we felt we'd seen it all.
And then we discovered pillows. More specifically, anti-ageing and anti-wrinkle pillows. It started relatively simple, and down the rabbit hole we fell...
Anti Aging Pillows™ ($165) are essentially memory foam pillows with 'anti-ageing cooling gel pads' slipped in. The theory being you won't smush up your face on soft pillows and pillowcases which encourages wrinkles to form. The cooling gel pads will rejuvenate your face and lead to a peaceful night's sleep with no more turning your pillow over to the cool side. And we all know you look younger after a good night's sleep.
With the Face Saver Pillow™ ($50) things start to get a little strange. The theory behind this rather petite pillow is that the human head weighs between 7 and 10 pounds. So if you sleep on your face, you're essentially sleeping with a weight pushing your skin into your pillow. By sleeping on what looks like a make-shift jumper-pillow, you get to take advantage of gravity which will pull back from your hairline. The Face Saver Pillow claims to be the most comfortable and effective in protecting your face - not only from lines and wrinkles, but from muscular breakdown and the weight of your own head. The satin pillowcases also protect your hair from frizz and snagging. And that's always nice.
And then we give you - JuveRest® The Sleep Wrinkle Pillow™ ($200 + $50 for the cover). Designed by a board-certified plastic surgeon, The Sleep Wrinkle Pillow is 'an easy-to-use, non-invasive wrinkle solution that minimizes facial wrinkles caused by compression from pillow contact during sleep.' This one pillow has 9 special features, designed to minimise wrinkle formation whether you're a back or side sleeper. It also looks like a brick and has more straight edges and corners than we thought possible for something designed for comfort.
So can changing your pillow really minimise the amount of wrinkles you'll get? And do they really need to be so technical? If smushing your face in to your plump, down-filled pillow really does give you wrinkles, couldn't you just sleep on your back? Or buy a basic memory foam pillow? Are inventors just taking advantage of our quest for eternal youth? Ahhh with all these questions and talk of sleep, I need a nap. If only there was a pillow for napping at your desk. Oh wait, there is. The Ostrich Pillow.
So what are your thoughts on anti-ageing pillows? Will you be investing in a specially designed anti-wrinkle pillow, or is this just another fad in the age-defying market? Or maybe you've changed your pillow in the fight against wrinkles - have you noticed a difference?

They all look so uncomfortable! Sleep is precious to me, comfort is king. I only sleep on my side so going to get a few sleep wrinkles anyway I think. We actually bought some of those really expensive memory foam tempur pillows; they lasted about 3 nights and then were quickly consigned to the scrap heap. Horrible. I'll stick to my nice squashy cloud for now.
