The Anti Wrinkle Pillow - Really?

20 July, 2014 - 09:15pm by - First Lady | 24 Comments

Article by BR Tabatha

At BR HQ we're firm believers that any age is beautiful, and we're accepting of the fact that with age comes, well, the signs of ageing.  This doesn't mean we're going to go down the wrinkle road without a fight - whenever a new age-defying product arrives on the market, BR HQ gets interested.  From lotions and potions, to out-there (and frankly, horrifying) face masks, we felt we'd seen it all.

And then we discovered pillows.  More specifically, anti-ageing and anti-wrinkle pillows.  It started relatively simple, and down the rabbit hole we fell...

Anti Aging Pillows™ ($165) are essentially memory foam pillows with 'anti-ageing cooling gel pads' slipped in.  The theory being you won't smush up your face on soft pillows and pillowcases which encourages  wrinkles to form.  The cooling gel pads will rejuvenate your face and lead to a peaceful night's sleep with no more turning your pillow over to the cool side.  And we all know you look younger after a good night's sleep.

With the Face Saver Pillow™ ($50) things start to get a little strange.  The theory behind this rather petite pillow is that the human head weighs between 7 and 10 pounds.  So if you sleep on your face, you're essentially sleeping with a weight pushing your skin into your pillow.  By sleeping on what looks like a make-shift jumper-pillow, you get to take advantage of gravity which will pull back from your hairline. The Face Saver Pillow claims to be the most comfortable and effective in protecting your face - not only from lines and wrinkles, but from muscular breakdown and the weight of your own head.  The satin pillowcases also protect your hair from frizz and snagging.  And that's always nice.

And then we give you - JuveRest® The Sleep Wrinkle Pillow™ ($200 + $50 for the cover).  Designed by a board-certified plastic surgeon, The Sleep Wrinkle Pillow is 'an easy-to-use, non-invasive wrinkle solution that minimizes facial wrinkles caused by compression from pillow contact during sleep.'  This one pillow has 9 special features, designed to minimise wrinkle formation whether you're a back or side sleeper.  It also looks like a brick and has more straight edges and corners than we thought possible for something designed for comfort.

So can changing your pillow really minimise the amount of wrinkles you'll get?  And do they really need to be so technical?  If smushing your face in to your plump, down-filled pillow really does give you wrinkles, couldn't you just sleep on your back?  Or buy a basic memory foam pillow?  Are inventors just taking advantage of our quest for eternal youth? Ahhh with all these questions and talk of sleep, I need a nap.  If only there was a pillow for napping at your desk.  Oh wait, there is.  The Ostrich Pillow.

So what are your thoughts on anti-ageing pillows?  Will you be investing in a specially designed anti-wrinkle pillow, or is this just another fad in the age-defying market?  Or maybe you've changed your pillow in the fight against wrinkles - have you noticed a difference?

Wow interesting, they look so uncomfortable and really pricey I don't think I could justify that in a pillow unless it really worked.I would like to see some proof and they would have to be comfy.

To be honest its just common sense really. Sleeping on your face will crease your skin, leading to wrinkles. I'm surprised it actually took them so long to come up with something like this.

Whatever happened to a good old silk pillow case?

26th July, 2014

hahahahaha wtf!!! The Juverest just looks bizarre!

This definitely would not be something id invest in. I'm a turner and usually sleep in a fetal position so this pillow would definitely prevent me getting a good nights sleep!

lol, seriously?! I'm on of those people that likes to hug my pillow and sink into a blissful sleep with a soft puffy pillow. That just seems horribly uncomfortable!

I was given one from physio that looks like the one above, I found it awful and could not get comfortable or to sleep. Even after my neck injury was long gone I tried again to see if it was any better, but nope very uncomfy and didnt feel like I was in a relaxed position

I love the look of the pillow you put on your head Looks great for a day nap

This just seems silly. You don't need to be that obsessed about your skin to go to these extremes.

They all seem very uncomfortable! I wouldn't be able to sleep and isn't it called 'Beauty sleep' Sleep has a lot to do with wrinkles and dark lines etc

I'm a tummy sleeper, not whilst pregnant obviously, by goodness I miss being able to sleep on my tummy lol but I'd prefer my feather pillow to any other thank you very much!

This would never work for me as I toss and turn through the night. I do use a feather pillow. I sleep on my back.

I bought a latex pillow a couple years back because I didn't like to have to puff up my pillow during the middle of night. Although this anti-aging pillows make sense to a point, if you do not find it comfortable and can't sleep properly your will age faster than using a regular you are comfortable with. I am a side sleeper but do at some point during the night roll on to my back and sleep. I do have some pillowcases that are smooth and sort of silky, though I'm pretty sure the material isn't satin or silk. It is rather cold to use during the winter and a bit hot during the summer but being rather vain I do still use them. I definitely think these pillows are a gimmick. I once bought these expensive side sleeper pro pillows of the TV channel that were supposedly supposed to help you sleep with a straighter posture and be more comfortable and they turned out to be really hard and uncomfortable, ended up giving them away, absolute waste of money! I'm never buying pillows that I can't feel and try out in the store first.

Those pillows look so uncomfortable. I think I would rather choose wrinkles and a peaceful sleep then some weird contraption to sleep on!

I can't justify spending that amount on a square looking pillow lol I'd rather spend the money on skin care products :-)

I always wondered about those tv channel pillows too.
