The BR Guide To Picking A New Hairdryer

2 November, 2014 - 08:32pm by - First Lady | 231 Comments

Article by BR Merilyn

So let’s get one thing straight upfront. I have thin hair but I have a lot of it, and despite the fact that it’s currently in a short crop, it would still easily take 15 minutes to blow dry. It’s just the type of hair that soaks up moisture.  It probably defies the imagination therefore, that I have hair that NEEDS to be styled!  Oh no, no flippy pony for me.. Needless to say then, that blow-drying my hair is one of my PET hates in the morning!  Which to be fair, is understandable, when you calculate that it equals 52 hours of my life every year (52 hours!)  just spent blow drying my hair!  What else could I be doing with that time? Sleeping? Relaxing? Drinking wine?

A hair dryer, or blow dryer (whatever your term for it), is something every woman will no doubt possess, and yet, I have now decided. it is probably also the one beauty accessory completely taken for granted.

You don’t have to search far for threads about hair straighteners  - there is more about “ is brand X better than brand Y?” than you can poke a stick at.  Yet, not unlike the 2nd born to the heir to the throne, the humble hair dryer appears to be relegated to the position of “I’m glad there is one and what were you saying again?”

So I can’t help but wonder, “Could the Hair Dryer  be the least appreciated beauty accessory ever?”

Case in point, I’ve had my current hair drier (a Remington) for I reckon,  close to 15 years. 15 Years!  Crikey, that’s longer than 50% of marriages last! It’s still going, it still blows out hot air, so why would I need to replace it? It still goes …right?

All of the above is true, however, in the interests of research for you dear readers I decided to go on a quest to (drum roll) replace the hair dryer!

I promptly took myself off to Farmers where I spend a good 20 minutes perusing the shelves –  frankly, leaving 20 minutes later none the wiser.  Oh there was plenty to choose from don’t get me wrong, but, what did I want? What did I need?  What were the most important elements for my new friend to have?

Did I want speed? Heat? Silence? Ionic technology to smooth my hair? Multiple heat settings? Multiple speed settings?  Crikey? Frankly, yes, yes, yes and yes, all of the above sound good, but, surely one hairdryer can't serve them all? And, would I end up with a model that does everything just averagely, as opposed to doing one thing well?

Hmmmm more research required. So, after extensive research I determined that  for me the three critical things were:

- Airflow.  I want to be able to dry my hair FAST!
- Quiet is good  I am often up before the rest of the house.
- Budget. Well I had in my head $100 – and lets face it, if the next one lasts 15 years, well it’ll be money well spent.

Given  that criteria,  I then consider what about the brand? Does it matter to me that my blowdryer is endorsed by Hermen McWatsit? Hairdresser to the stars?

And the answer…is an emphatic NO!  So, Ultimately my thought process went like this;

My last hair dryer (a Remington) lasted 15 years..
That’s pretty good
Here’s a new model that claims to be quiet. And fast
That sounds like me. Well…,not actually like me… but you get the gist.

So there you have it. My new Remington Euro 8000.  And wouldn’t you know it? Technology has come along way in 15 years! My new Remington Euro 8000 not only looks good, but dries my hair in 5 MINUTES! Saving me a massive 10 minutes every time I dry my hair – I love it!

It was retailing for a lofty $149.95 BUT, like most retailers Farmers have hot specials almost every week. I  picked it up for $79.95 so $20 under my budget.

So there you have it. My guidelines on what to look for in a hair dryer. Ultimately you need to think about what’s important to you and then go from there. My one advice would be though.. don’t take your hair dryer for granted!

We passed this review on to our friends at Remington and they so loved what BR’s Merilyn had to say that the want to share the love!  Together we have 2 Remington Euro 8000 Hairdryers to give away!

Conditioning and reducing frizz, this sounds amazing! My travel hairdryer is almost dead, I want one!

Wow hair dyers see, to of come along way since I last owned one (10yrs ago) and not only does it look amazing but it has a removable filter which is my favourite thing about it. And then having different settings I would be more comfortable using this on my 4yr old daughters hair which in bum length like mine.

I'll be honest, I don't even know where my hairdryer is. It's completely useless on my hair so I gave up on it. With a baby in the house I love the sound of the silent feature and anything that makes my hair smoother is a bonus

With thick long hair, the need to reduce frizz is an absolute must have for me!

9th November, 2014

I love the sleek red design and the ultra silent technology! I cant dry my hair at 5am before going to work as my hair dryer would wake my partner up, I either wash it the day before or just end up tying my wet (gasp!) hair in a bun and go to work. Ahhh what I would give for a silent hair dryer! I should definitely check how silent this hair dryer is!

Omg it comes with a diffuser - I've got to get one! I have naturally curly hair that needs airdryed with a diffuser to avoid frizz. And of course I can be known to be a slave to the straighteners which requires a fast "non frizz" smooth hairdry first. Great review!

I loove that it claims it can dry your hair in 5 minutes! That's impressive! A lot of my time is wasted drying my hair because I have to wash daily, and my 10 year old $10 hair dryer just doesn't really cut it!

8th November, 2014

I need this. My hair is pretty thick and soaks up more water than a sponge. I usually blow dry for 15 minutes, give up, chuck it in a pony and continue to dry it when I get home from work because I'm guaranteed to still have damp hair 8 hours later. I'm pretty stoked about the Tourmaline ceramic technology (who doesn't like less frizz!?) and the 3 heats and 2 speeds features.

8th November, 2014

Ultra silent technology is great my current blow dryer sounds like a 747 about to take off and I'm sure the neighbours are sick of hearing me blow dry my hair at 6am each day....I know the Kids are....

8th November, 2014

6 switch combinations 3 heat & 2 speed - this is great for when doing the families hair. I like mine to be on the hottest, fastest setting as I don't have much time, usually I air dry it because my hair dryer is so ancient (I have a Remington too lol, aren't they amazing), but my kiddie winkles like to have their's on a slower setting and not very hot at all, so this is a great one as it has 6 different combinations, can't get any better than that xx

2300 Watts, Supreme advanced air flow what more could you need, but it has more. I would love to give this to my daughter, she spends ages on her long hair ..would free up the bathroom for the rest of us

7th November, 2014

I love the fast airflow as I have thin hair but alot of it and it was one that worked really well for me. I was using my sis-n-law's when I stayed there and I loved it , she joked that she had to make sure I didn't hide it away in my suitcase when I came home , LOL ...

7th November, 2014

Probably the different heat settings and the fact it dries hair quicker, my hair is super thick it usually takes me about 15min to dry if not longer!

7th November, 2014

This hairdryer sounds amazing! My favourite thing about the Remington Euro 8000 would probably have to be the fact that it "Releases 90% more ions*-Conditions and nourishes for soft, shiny, smooth hair". My hair is so dry, brittle and damaged so anything that can help with that is awesome. I hate using hairdryers too often due to hair damage but i'd love to use this one all the time!

7th November, 2014

Almost eveything appeals to me but particularly "reduces the fix", has a diffuser and is 23oo watts. Bonus is the fact that apparently last 'forever'!

Hi, just to clarify that the hair dryer does not claim to dry your hair in 5 mins this is the time it takes to dry my hair. To enter the comp you must click on the link above, visit the Remington site and tell us what you like about this dryer xoxBR
