The Cheat's Guide To Faking It

Article by BR Tabatha

Not enough hours in the day.  I'm a busy mum.  I've just come straight from work.  My alarm didn't go off.

All excuses we use when we arrive somewhere looking less than put together right?  Well we say - if you can't look the part; fake it.  With a few cheats you won't look anything put 100% put together.

Here's some tips from the cheaters at BRHQ.

Hair -

  • Dry shampoo is great for freshening hair when you don't have time to wash it.
  • Try a sea-salt spray to add crunch to the greasiness - channel your inner beach bum / grungie.
  • If you don't have time to curl or straighten your hair properly, twist sections of your hair tightly and run the straightener over them for soft waves.  Which let's be honest, is better than a bird's nest.
  • Style the front of your hair and your fringe and pull the rest back in a bun!

Cosmetics -

  • If you're wearing peep toe shoes only paint the toes you can see.
  • Line your lower lash and water line, close your eyes and rub along your closed lash line.  Open your eyes and use a cotton bud to neaten the top line.  Voila, on purpose, on trend, grunge eyes in less than a minute!
  • Apply your moisturiser and BB Cream / Foundation in one step, you'll look fresh faced without having to stress about tide lines.
  • Invest in a few multi-purpose products, like all over colour sticks, that can be used as an eyeshadow, blush and lipstick.

Other -

  • No time to iron your clothes?  Flat iron them.
  • No time to shower?  Wet wipes and deodorant are a dirty gal's best friend.  That and a spritz of perfume!
  • Having a chill day?  Invest in some yoga pants - if you have to nip out they're actually fashionable, yet just as comfy as your tramp, I mean track, pants.

I hang majority of my clothes to avoid the need for ironing and some of my clothes such as uniform for work I was on a crease cycle and hang them on the line on their coat hanger...... I do this with my kids clothes aswell keeps the stress out of that one. Well tries to keep stress away.

One of my top tricks was using a face wipe or wet wipe to wipe myself down in place of a shower. Another one which works if you're short on time and need to do a quick run or perhaps drop your kids off at school and it's sunny, invest in some oversized sunglasses and put lippy. Everyone will think you did a full face because you have lippy on.

Coloured eyeliner instead of shadows... takes seconds but looks great.

I love dry shampoo! My saviour for when I don't have time to wash my hair.

I love dry shampoo, its always in my cupboard, however have ran out and need to go and stock up again especially as I'm starting back studying again next month lol.

I do so many of these already lol clearly I'm a lazy bugger! Dry shampoo is a godsend, always apply if after straightening etc for best results; Straightening the front bits of my hair and tying it back takes no time at all, or my recent fave has been a messy plait - you don't have to straighten anything coz it's meant to be messy - even faster! I have wet wipes stashed everywhere for a multitude of uses, they're great for freshening up in this heat, and I only ever use my straightener to 'iron' my clothes, haha. It's so fast!

I remember as a teenager we used to use baby powder as a dry shampoo. Well it smelt nice!

When I don't have time to straighten I give in to the chaos. A quick blast of heat from the hairdryer, hang my head upside down then a quick blast of cool air. Spritz of hairspray and I have a wavy tousled bob.

Ahahah tramp pants;) I hate ironing so I hang my shirts on hangers then hang them out. That way gravity+weight+magic fries them relatively straight and wrinkle free.

My cheat, dye your eyelashes so if you don't have time for mascara you can just add a (very) little Vaseline :)

26th January, 2015

So giving the eyeliner trick a go! Dry shampoo is my lifesaver on an extremely regular basis - so worth the (tiny) investment :)

26th January, 2015

My favourite has to be the foundation and BB cream mixed together I do this to stretch my bb cream out as Im on a tight budget.

26th January, 2015

These are neat as. I havnt tried a dry shampoo. I do love the wipes for everything though. I'm gonna try more of these too

26th January, 2015

Yoga pants - definitely. Comfy and practical

26th January, 2015

Tramp pants lol. I do messy buns for when my hair has just been washed so I don't have to muck around blow drying before I can straighten it. cream eyeshadows (like maybelline colour tatoos) are super quick and easy to apply and look really good too if I want a quick look without mucking around with eyeshadow but I want an eyeshadow look.
