Towards the end of each year we wait with bated breath for Pantone’s Colour of the Year announcement. What will it be? Why will they have chosen it? Will we like it? This year they’ve surprised us by choosing not one but two colours.
The first is Rose Quartz, a gentle soft pink.
The other is named Serenity and it’s a tranquil blue. So how did this come about? You can read the full reasoning on Pantone’s website, but in a nutshell they felt that by melding of the warmth of the pink and the coolness of the blue they were fulfilling society’s need for reassurance, wellness, peace, order and connection. They also felt by choosing two colours that wouldn’t usually go together they were showcasing the change we’re seeing in regards to the blurring of genders in fashion.
The reason behind the colour choice is a pretty fascinating read, especially in relation to the fluidity and equality of genders. When applied to the world of makeup it’s something we are seeing more and more often, with men embracing cosmetics, while women are applying traditionally male colours. The boundaries are disappearing and it’s a beautiful thing.
Now if I were to be honest, and this is only my opinion and the rest of the world is free to disagree, I probably wouldn’t make this year’s Pantone colours part of my décor and they most likely wouldn’t make an appearance in my wardrobe either. However, I think it’s a perfect makeup match and whether you’re blending the two or just working with one of the colours you can create some stunning looks. With that in mind I went searching to find products that reflect Pantone’s Colour of the Year.

Both! but teamed up together as the colours look great paired. Not sure what I think of either on their own... I like blue and I like pink but both are a bit more muted than my normal preferences as stand alone shades (totally depends on application though). :)
