The Colour of 2016

Towards the end of each year we wait with bated breath for Pantone’s Colour of the Year announcement. What will it be? Why will they have chosen it? Will we like it? This year they’ve surprised us by choosing not one but two colours.

The first is Rose Quartz, a gentle soft pink.

The other is named Serenity and it’s a tranquil blue. So how did this come about? You can read the full reasoning on Pantone’s website, but in a nutshell they felt that by melding of the warmth of the pink and the coolness of the blue they were fulfilling society’s need for reassurance, wellness, peace, order and connection. They also felt by choosing two colours that wouldn’t usually go together they were showcasing the change we’re seeing in regards to the blurring of genders in fashion.

The reason behind the colour choice is a pretty fascinating read, especially in relation to the fluidity and equality of genders. When applied to the world of makeup it’s something we are seeing more and more often, with men embracing cosmetics, while women are applying traditionally male colours. The boundaries are disappearing and it’s a beautiful thing.

Now if I were to be honest, and this is only my opinion and the rest of the world is free to disagree, I probably wouldn’t make this year’s Pantone colours part of my décor and they most likely wouldn’t make an appearance in my wardrobe either. However, I think it’s a perfect makeup match and whether you’re blending the two or just working with one of the colours you can create some stunning looks. With that in mind I went searching to find products that reflect Pantone’s Colour of the Year.

L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow in Forever Pink is a divine way to add the colour of the year into your look. Wash it all over your lid, sweep it underneath the lower lash line, pop it in the corner of your eyes – it’s up to you what you do with it but you can be sure it’ll create a gorgeous look.

Want to experiment with the Pantone colours as well as some others? Check out Chi Chi’s Pretty Palette! This fabulous palette gives you so many options to embrace this year’s colours while mixing them up with different shades.

Essie Bikini So Teeny nail polish was well loved when Beauty Review members trialled it. It’s such a close match to Serenity and a perfect colour for summer too!

Not afraid of adding an interesting hue to your lips? Then NYX Macaron Lippies in Earl Grey is another Serenity-esque colour that’s sure to turn heads.

But if you’re girly through and through and like to keep things natural then Cover Girl Continuous Colour in Rose Quartz is for you!

Pick up Lush’s bestselling bath bomb, Twilight, and you can even bathe in the colours of the year!

Wait, there’s more. Pantone has teamed up with Sephora to create a range based on the colours, check them out here

So will you be embracing Pantone’s Colour of the Year? Are you a Rose Quartz girl? A Serenity chick? Both? Or are they not your favourites and you’ll hold your breath for a colour that’ll rock your world next year? Get chatting!

Both! but teamed up together as the colours look great paired. Not sure what I think of either on their own... I like blue and I like pink but both are a bit more muted than my normal preferences as stand alone shades (totally depends on application though). :)

Soft Pink and Blue are two of my favourite colours.

I think this is just a random color choice, reminds me of a baby Shower! I honestly can't imagine wearing these shades, well maybe light pink lips without the shimmer.

They are very pretty colours! They look like spring shades :)

Love rose quartz and have similar shades myself.

I think Rose Quartz, and Serenity would look fab as alternating colours on toes (that's my thing, I always alternate colours on toes), and the Covergirl lippy looks lovely

I love these colours, however they are rather girlie....nothing wrong with that! But colours I don't think I could pull off

I really like the combo of the two colours. They are soft but make a statement. They ooze femininity but also masculinity. I am hooked!

I don't really stick with colors of the year. I wear what I feel looks good on and me and suits my mood. That being said I think I have painted my nails a similar shade to serenity years ago and it was so unlike me to sport that shade and given that my nails were perfectly shaped people asked if they were fake. I may do that again, if I have a similar shade of polish in collection. I think I may have a mineral eyeshadow that's about a rose quartz shade which I may whip out this year and maybe a gloss that about that shade as well.

I love the blue but on the whole I suit darker more vibrant colours. Pink is a little girley for my taste

Errr I don't like either one HOWEVER if I was forced to choose because someone threatened to destroy all my highlighters then I'd pick rose quartz.

16th January, 2016

I love serenity. I love any shade of blue really, it's my favourite colour :)

OHHH so pretty!!! I'm about to start repainting one of my Bathroom displays at work with a dark red & dark Blue... I'm not considering switching to these colours....

15th January, 2016

oh I love these gorgeous colours.. Love the nail polish and that Eye Shadow Palette

15th January, 2016

I like both colours myself what a nice choice
