The Hair Trend That Should Be Easy – But Isn’t!

Who doesn’t love the idea of waking up in the morning, running your hands through your hair, and heading out the door looking oh so hot right now? Sounds like my idea of heaven, and when I saw that bed head hair was the next big thing (again, because really, are there any ‘new’ hair styles anymore?) I got a little excited. I even tried to do that first sentence – wake up with second day hair (because my first day hair never has any style, ever), run my hands through it and leave for work. People looked my way alright, but not because I could easily have come off a catwalk, more because I looked like the great unwashed, and un-brushed.

So what does a girl need to do in order to get bed head hair like the great Giselle or the infinitely stylish Alexa Chung. Well, there are a few options – in fact there are tonnes - none of which sound that easy… but in the interest of fashuuun and style, here are a few tips and tricks to help you get the look…

For a more polished bedhead (I know!?) get the tongs or straighteners out – or both – and don’t forget your heat protectant spray. Spray your second-day hair with the protectant, then use the tongs to create curls around your head, being sure to change the direction of the curls so it’s not too perfect, then pin them up to help them set as you go. Once done, release the curls and run your hands gently through them to relax them. Add a texturising product (one that suits your hair type) and run it through to create a piece-y style. To make your look a little more undone, run your straighteners over the last few inches of your hair, and you’re finished. Just like that. Easy. Oh, and if you’re curly headed? Make sure you straighten your hair before you curl it… oh, and if you’re prone to oily hair dry-shampoo those locks up before you begin…

Another suggestion I came across was the idea of popping some texturiser into your hair, then plaiting your hair before bed in different sized plaits. The next morning you take out the plaits, add dry shampoo up the top for oomph, as well as a bit more texturiser to messy the waves up, and you’re good to go. Now I love the concept of this, I can see how it could work, but I can also see how on some types of hair (such as finer hair like I have) you could run the danger of looking like you’ve had the crimper out if the plait was too small…  Anyhoo, while it still involves a little time, it’s a heck of a lot easier to achieve than the first option…

Oh, and if your hair’s kind of naturally bedhead-y but not quite? Take second or third day hair, spray in dry shampoo for a bit of body and to soak up any oil, then take a texturising product, flip your head upside down, and work the product through your hair. Done. Actually, I quite like that way of doing it, it actually sounds easy…

So do tell, are you a fan of bed head? Are you one of those rare breeds who literally can just roll out of bed and look ready to go? Or do you have to work at it? What are your tips? How do you do it? The easier the better! And never forget… sharing is caring!

I never have good bed hair. Mainly because my hair is quite straight so I can't really pull of the beachy waves look. And because I have thick hair, texture add too much volume for me

This is my look most days lately but with zero effort and not as well put together lol Still it's nice to say now that this is trendy ;) :P

I can roll out of bed with messy hair but not stylishly messy.

Yes, I wish bed head hair was as easy as it sounds. My real bed hair is a huge boof filled with matted parts, not so cute!

Love bed head hair but there's definitely a fine line between cute and looking like a hot mess

yes i am fan of bed hair.it is easy to manage my bed hair. use my fingers and less hair product and i am done. i make small plaits before i go to bed and in morning i run the straightener on plaits. take of the plaits. its turn out nice curls. big to small plaits depends on how big to small wave or curl i need. i wash my hair twice a week. before wash i give my hair to oil massage( almond or coconut ) after 2 or 3 hour i wash my hair.

Omg I could actually never do bed head my hair looks like a frizzmattattack in the morning, shame! Life would be easier if we woke up looking glam thou :)

I'm not a huge fan of any styles that require a lot of styling as far as doing them on my own hair is concerned, but they do look cool. All I usually do with my hair is brush it and sometimes put some defrizzing spray in it.

I can't do this my hair is far too frizzy to achieve naturally. If I wanted to though it would be to straighten my hair on the second to third day after straightening I can achieve this with dry shampoo.

I'm lucky there I love bed hair and it's super easy for me I just literally run my fingers through my hair apply a bit of oil on my ends and ta dar done loving it! :)

Is it really bed hair if you have to put sooooo much effort into it? Lol

Even when I try to get the polished sleek look, it ends up more like bed hair! I have unruly curls & waves so it's just how it is... To get it looking decent though it does take work... Thanks for the tips above - I'll be trying them!

I wish I could pull off bed head but my hair is fine and thin so I just look like a scruff :(

No bed head looks like bed head and I love shiny brushed clean hair -To me nothing looks better that long shiny locks but each to their own.

I looove bed hair, but no, it doesn't come naturally. Haha. After reading this I just threw some texturiser through my drying, freshly washed hair and then chucked it in to some random plaits haha. Thanks for the idea! Hopefully this saves me some time in the morning as I've been doing option one quite frequently, but it's just so time consuming!

When I do bother doing it 'properly', one thing that helps a lot (for my fine hair at least) is doing rather tight curls initially, leaving them alone until they 100% cool down (I normally curl before my makeup and leave to cool whilst caking the face). Once cool I run my fingers through the curls and spray a light dusting of hairspray in and amongst the curls. They just fall so nicely without going flat, giving that coveted 'messy' look. Straightening the ends is key as well, as the article mentions :)

I couldn't agree with you more amy lol I have to really try to get mine like that. By teasing, straightening and adding product.
