You won't believe what people are doing with fake tan!

Just when we thought the contouring trend couldn’t get any crazier…

We love fake tan. Adore it. A good percentage of us at BRHQ love having a little colour on our skin, and since we’re well aware of the dangers of doing it the old fashioned way we turn to fake tan. Of course, the one thing we never expected to be told we could do with it (other than slather it on our limbs) was to use it to contour our face. You see it turns out that contouring your face with your fake tan is a thing, and all trails of research lead to Marissa Carter, founder of Coco Brown self tan, as being the person who took the trend and made it accessible to us mere mortals.

We recall contouring with fake tan as being a thing last winter during the Northern Hemisphere’s summer, but we saw it and kind of ignored it, as well, life was all about strobing back then, and with winter upon us we were thinking more about covering up then fake tanning. But the trend has popped up again this year, and well, we couldn’t ignore it any longer. So what is the name for this form of contour application? … Tantouring… or tontouring… depending on where you look and who’s talking about it.

So what does tantouring involve? Basically you take a fake tan, either an instant tan or a buildable one, and apply it with a makeup brush to the areas you’d usually contour, and blend it out. So just under cheekbones, on the forehead, along your jawline, down the sides of your nose… you get the picture.

You then let the tan do its thing, wash it off, and next thing you know you’ve carved yourself out some semi-permanent cheekbones, slimmed your nose, your forehead, given yourself a sleek jaw – and it’ll last until the tan wears off. So if you’re adept at contouring, and looking for ways to save time in your makeup routine, this could be for you.

Of course, sometimes seeing is understanding, and who better to show you how to tantour/tontour than our beloved, Wayne Goss, who gave it a go, but, well, perhaps a little blending may have been in order... You’ll see… Oh and even if you don’t want to try this out, this video’s actually a rather wonderful watch*.

So are you brave enough to give tan-touring a go? Is it something you’ve already tried? If so, how did you find it? Or are you happy to leave this look out of your makeup trick kit? Chat away…

*Completely unrelated footnote: Head Pixie and me are just a lil obsessed with our main man Wayne.  I'm dying to interview him, if you follow him, tell him to answer my email!  - First Lady.

Love Wayne Goss but this might be a bit extreme for me and I'd probably end up looking like a zebra -

Lol what next hehe

4th April, 2016

I have trouble applying self tan at the best of times... so Nope here lol I also haven't ventured into contouring so maybe best to tackle that obstacle first ;)

4th April, 2016

Not for me, I am hopeless at contouring and fake tan as well.

3rd April, 2016

Hehe he's so adorable! ;-) I won't be giving it a go as I can't even do normal contouring yet hahaha

Wayne's wink at the end *swoon* I love my fake tan and have always been way too scared to use it on my face even when getting salon tans so this is defiantly a no go for me... I hope someone tries it though!

Not for me, feel it is for the younger set. Enjoy the video and the article.

Not one for me I am too fair and this would not be easy to get to look natural.

Not for me. Its hard enough blending the cream and powder contour. Thinking about all the mistakes I can make with the tan makes me cringe!

WOW! I had never heard of this until now, I would give this a go, it looks awesome! I watched a few of Wayne goss videos today, he is such a wise and spunky male ;) If we all spam him maybe he will answer your email :D

That's a cool idea. I probably won't try it (cos I'd totally mess it up) but anything that looks good and stays there for days has gotta be good?

Wayne is my favourite makeup artist. Never own fake tan because I have already tan skin....I am not going to try tan-touring...

Sounds like a great concept.

Be interesting to know what others who can contour think. I'm still in the phase of "am I doing this right?" with contouring.

Absolutely crazy! I love the way he's so hesitant and can't help laughing while he's applying the fake tan. Honestly, I thought the stripe on the cheek would have been buffed or blended a little with a beauty blender or sponge before being left to 'cure'. Kind of like what he did on his forehead. It may have given a slightly more natural look instead of solid stripe. Now, after I've said my 2 cents worth, there's no way I'm going to even consider trying it! What happens on weekends when you're make-up free, sitting at home and suddenly there's an unexpected knock on the door? Do you answer the door with your tiger-striped, make-up free face or pretend you're not home? No, thanks.
