The Tati Trick That Changed My Foundation Application

I don't know if it's because it's summer, or if it's just that my skin is changing as I grow older, but in the last few months I've noticed a change in the skin on my face. A really annoying one.

You see I've always had large pores on my cheeks, nose and the area between my brows, but they've suddenly morphed from holes into craters. And what's worse any foundation I apply is sitting in them. Obviously. Like fly dirt surrounding a light in your house, but foundation coloured.

Initially I put it down to needing to change up my method of application. So I skipped my Artis brush knock-off (so cheap and SO good) and re-friended my Beautyblender. But it... didn't work. The foundation was still obviously spackling up my pores. Buffing brush? Nope. Stippling brush. Uh-uh. 

When the application change method showed no improvement I decided to experiment with different primers. L'Oreal Revitalift Magic Blur did a great job in my pore-zone, but it made the rest of my skin feel greasy by the end of the day. Guerlain L'Or Radiance made my outer perimeter feel fabulous, but did nothing to help the pore situation. THEN the universe answered with a video from my YouTube fav, Tati.

Combine the primers. (And yes, that's being said in my head like the line 'cross the streams' from Ghostbusters, because the idea was radical and crazy, yet I could see how it just might work.

You see Tati too has pores that need a little extra help, so she likes to combine her primers - as seen in this video:

where she uses Cover FX Custom Blot Drops in the areas where she's prone to get oily, along with Tarte Clean Slate Timeless Smoothing Primer on the parts of her face that needed a little filling action. In more recent videos I've noticed she's been using her Guerlain L'Or Radiance on her whole of her face as she likes its lifting action, along with the Tarte primer on her more porous areas. 

Well... if it works for Tati, then I had no choice but to give it a go. What did I have to lose right? So I grabbed by Guerlain L'Or Radiance and smoothed it all over (probably could have just stuck to the outer perimeter but, eh, more is more), and then I patted the L'Oreal Magic Blur onto my cheeks, nose and the area between and just above my eyebrows.

Back to my trusty knock-off brush I went, applied my foundation, and voila. A perfect base created perfect foundation, that lasted throughout the day and didn't cause my skin to go greasy or dry and crackly. Thank you, Tati!
