We see a lot of nail trends here at BRHQ. Some leave us shaking our heads in wonder – quickly followed by us reaching for our phones so we can call our nail technicians and say ‘gimme gimme’. Others leave us shaking our heads in wonder, but in a ‘what the heck? I’m not sure I understand this’ way. Yep, nail art is indeed ‘art’. And like any art its beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and what one might adore others might run from. So what have been some of the head-scratchers we’ve seen lately?
Furry nails. This is a recent trend, and well, the reaction from the Beauty Review Crew was interesting…. ‘no, just no’ … ‘well, I guess it would be handy if you needed to polish a tiny table or something’ …. ‘it looks like the nails had glue popped on them and then she stroked a cat’. Yeah, I don’t think you’ll be seeing us try this one anytime soon.
While there is something delightfully whimsical about pompom nails, we just can’t help but find them a little too OTT to be an everyday look. If you’re off to see a Cirque show or planning to attend a circus themed kids party? Perfect. For work on the farm or standing in front of a judge ready to defend the rights of fellow humans, maybe not so much…
One look we’re on the fence about is crochet nails. Hooklook appears to be the pioneer of this style, and while we adore the black version – it looks pretty darn chic – the pink version? The jury is out.
When bubble nails hit the beauty scene we gave it the big ‘oh no’. Time hasn’t mellowed us. For some reason it makes us think of diseased growths. Prettily coloured diseased growths. But diseased growths nonetheless. This meme from @thenailhub really summed it up for us.
While we quite enjoy a shorter claw nail, especially the cat ladies in the crew, the longer ones just leave us baffled. How do you do anything? Typing? We’d be making more mistakes on the board than usual. Hanging out clothes? Doing dishes? I suppose picking your nose might be easier… not that anyone we know does that post six years of age….

Oh dear! The furry nails are particularly bad lol. The last set would be nice if they were a lot shorter.
