Sometimes it's hard to know what to take to the beach. I'm a chronic over-packer at the best of times, and when it comes to the seaside I want to be prepared for every occasion, which usually involves me bringing bulging bags that include everything but the kitchen sink... but not this year. This year I've been on a mission to simplify, which is why when I hit the beach this summer season I'm keeping things basic with this beach bag beauty kit.
Sunscreen
The first product is a no brainer. If you're heading out into the sun you need to protect yourself. A body sunscreen is an absolute must, but so is a sunscreen for your face. Some people can get away with using a body sunscreen in that area, but if you've sensitive skin or are prone to breakouts a sunscreen formulated for the face can give you the protection you need while not causing your skin to flare up.
If you want to be extra, or don't fancy wearing a hat, a sunscreen for your hair will protect it from fading, dullness and breakage. Bonus... a good hair protectant will also have SPF to keep your scalp from getting burnt.
SPF Lip Balm
Let's be honest, smothering sunscreen on your lips isn't the most pleasant sensation, or taste, in the world, however it is important to protect your lips (says she who once had her lips burn so badly they blistered), which is why a lip balm loaded with SPF is a must. Being that lip balms have a way of disappearing, keep one in your beach bag, in your purse, in your car, so you're never caught short.
After-sun Gel
Before heading home for the day, smother yourself in after-sun gel. This will nourish your skin after being exposed to the elements. Many after sun gels also contain aloe vera, which will help hydrate, as well as soothe your skin due to its anti-inflammatory properties, and if you've got yourself a touch of burn, it will also help keep things cool while supporting the healing process.
Deodorant
Let's be honest, even if all you're doing is lying down on the beach reading a good book, things can get sweaty at the beach. Add in running around tossing a frisbee, playing beach cricket, or heading into the great blue for a dip, and there's a good chance that by the end of your adventure you're going to be stinky, which is why carrying a deodorant is always a good idea so you can give yourself a swipe of freshness once you're done for the day.
And there you have it! Non a waterproof mascara, tinted moisturiser, or fancy facial spritz in sight! Just the basics for a fab day at the beach!

The after-sun gel is a great idea - I only ever think to put it on when I notice I'm burnt 6+ hours later!
