Over this hair-focused month, we've covered the tools we love to use, hair colours that inspire us, hair looks that are iconic, ways to amp up our day-to-day style and more. One thing we've not gone into? How to take good care of our hair. Whether your mane is coloured on the regular, or you're working with what nature gave you, keeping your hair in tip top condition is easy if you take the time to give it the attention it deserves. So what can you do to keep your crowning glory looking, er, glorious? Check out these tips and tricks...

1. First things first... use hair products that are designed for your hair type. Dry hair? Look for shampoos and conditioners designed to nourish. Prone to frizz? Look for products that hydrate. Oily hair? Products that work to clarify your locks are for you.

2. If your hair is coloured, then look for a sulfate-free shampoo, which will work to keep the colour locked in.

3. Try not to wash your hair all the time. Depending on your hair type, try and aim to wash every two to three days, or longer if you can manage it, as this will stop you stripping your scalp of its natural oils, which can lead to more oil, dandruff, not to mention lack of longevity if you colour your hair.

4. If your hair's on the dry side or you like to colour it, a deep conditioner or mask once a week will work wonders, keeping it looking healthy and shiny longer.

5. We'd never tell you to skip your straightener, tongs or hair dryers - we're not hypocrites! However, if you're going to be taking a hot tool to your hair, make sure you use a heat protectant.

6. Trim your hair regularly. Not only will this keep your hair style looking spot on, it'll remove any split ends, which can leave your hair looking worse for wear.

7. If you're fond of colouring your hair, use a colour-protecting spray or serum to keep your locks looking lush and vibrant.

8. If you're a long-haired beauty, then try not to keep your hair pulled back too tight too often (we're looking at you BR Kellie), as this can cause hair damage, and potentially even hair loss.

9. Heading out into the sun? Slap on a hat to avoid UV damage, which can make hair lacklustre and brittle.

10. Finally, eat a well-balanced diet. Getting enough Vitamins A and C, not to mention protein, omega-3 fatty acids, zinc, iron and biotin can work to create healthy hair growth while preventing damage (as always, speak to a health professional before changing up your diet).

All in all, it's not hard to keep your hair in top health - it's just a bit of common sense when it comes to choosing the right products, eating as well as you can, keeping your hair protected from heat, and treating your hair well on the regular.

So, my beauties, are you taking good care of your coloured hair? Will you be adding any of these tips into your regime? And what ways do you look after your lush locks? Get chatting below!

I’m definitely guilty of not getting my long locks trimmed as often as I should!

I need to do a bit better at trimming more regularly!!

My hair is very dry and I note as I am getting older my hair is a lot thinner than it was. I use a conditioner every wash and do wear a sun hat in the sun

I wish my hair looked thicker or that I have more of it on my head. I like to rotate my shampoos and use scrunchies hoping that it will be less damaging as I do have it up alot. I think I should try not to do it too tightly and get a trim.

Great tips. My hair is horribly dry because of my thyroid. I've started taking a dessertspoon of olive oil every morning to see if that helps.

Thanks for great article, l have long hair, l usually only wash my hair once a week if l can , and use dry shampoo and rinsing my hair in the shower , in-between. Then l only use shampoo on my scalp and use a deep conditioner on the ends Seems to work out well

I like the idea of a deep conditioning treatment once a week for my dry hair. I've never done it, but my Indian friends all swear by their weekly hair oiling session, and boy, do they all have gorgeous hair - yet it's the same hair type as mine. Oiling is just such a messy process though. But a mask? I reckon I could do a mask, with maybe some of that Garnier Hair Food that's such a hit on BR...

So true! I used to wash my hair every other day as they would get oily so fast. But now I wash only twice a week and they are not so oily anymore. A good diet also keeps hair nourished. And this is something I can proudly say I have achieved.

I agree. I dont wash my hair every day unless i have to. I tend to look for nourishing hydrating shampoos as my hair gets dry. Also agree with hatsespecially when i have dark hair that heats up in the sun. Trying to eat a well balance diet is the goal im still failing to achieve due to feeling lazy after work

Definitely need to amp up my iron

I wash my pixie length, finely stranded hair every day. It's hard to style otherwise...i don't colour, but do use heat protection before the six second blast of the hair dryer. The main thing for me is diet. A good or bad diet definitely reflects in your locks.
