I'm writing this from Auckland, where we've not had a summer. I'm not even exaggerating. Summer went AWOL. We might've had one week of consistently decent weather, and that's it. Sporadic sunshine does not count as summer. Sigh. So while I sit here battling a premature case of the SADs, I find myself wondering how I might extend summer in the hopes that if I fake it then I'll make it through this case of the doldrums, because surely a beauty pick-me-up can make up for the lack of Vitamin D... right?
So what are the ways that I'll be looking to trick myself into believing it's still summer? Read on...
Self tan
St Tropez Self Tan Purity Bronzing Water Gel
By now we all know that purposefully tanning in the glorious sun is a no-no, but as a person who colours up simply by walking from the car to the supermarket, this lack of accidentally-gained tan is making me feel most un-summery, so self tan is at the top of my list of ways to extend that summer feeling. I'm loving the look of the St Tropez Self Tan Purity Bronzing Water Gel. Apparently it's the world's first clear tanning gel! Not only is it clear, it purports to be non-sticky, infused with skincare actives (love a little double duty in my self tan), and offers up to 72 hours of hydration. Yes please. In the cart it goes.
Gloss
There's something about lush, juiced-up lips that screams summer, and Maybelline's Lifter Gloss promises to give exactly that with its high shine finish and fab formula that includes hyaluronic acid to smooth lips and create fuller-looking lips. Get on my kissers already!
Bronzer
In summer I want to look sun-kissed not sickly, and that means bronzer. Lots of it. Hitting all those points of my face that are blessed by the rays of Ra. So if I'm going to make like summer in Autumn, you can bet I'll be loading up with bronzer on my forehead, over my nose, on the tops of my cheekbones, with a dusting on my decolletage.
Blush
Nothing says summer like getting your glow on, and a flush of colour on the cheeks is a great way to look like you've spent the day breathing in the sea air while getting some strokes in out on the water. My pick? It's gotta be Milani Bellissimo Bronze for the extra glow it gives.
Nailed it!
One of my favourite parts of summer is getting out my tootsies and polishing them up in bright shades... alas, this summer my tootsies have spent most of their time encased in socks. That hasn't stopped me popping some (nail) paint on my tips though - the brighter the better! My pick? Essie's Frilly Lillie for a sunshine-y orange that will brighten up the days when the sun's hiding behind the clouds.
Fragrance
My last tip to extend your summer? Bathe yourself in the fragrance of summer. Spritz on a summery perfume, light a zesty candle, spread those summer vibes through your home or workplace, or carry them with you wherever you go, and you'll be walking on sunshine (woooaaahhhh! - sorry, had to).
