When it comes to an event like the Oscars, and your gown is sumptuous and lavish, you probably don't want to over do the makeup.

When a pregnant Natalie Portman won the Best Actress Oscar in 2011 she was wearing a rich purple gown - and her subtle makeup complimented the dress perfectly.  We're focusing on her subtle smokey, neutral eye palette - we love the simplistic yet timeless look.  And that without an obvious eyeliner tricks her eyes look wide and open.

I love this eye look! I often like to keep my eye makeup simple with just mascara and eyeliner. I like neutral shades and this neutral smokey eye looks simple but elegant so I might have to try and give this a go if I find the right colours and shades. Neutrals can be worn for any occasion and can be easily matched to your outfit

I love a neutral smoky eye!! This look is smoky without being too dark and over powering, it just highlights her natural beauty and makes her eyes stand out which I love! It's such a simple and effortless sort of look, I would love to try and re create something like this!

Love this simple, neutral look and I tend to wear these shades most days! I'm always keen to try different brands though especially for staying power. Natalie looks lovely:-)

I love this look and always use natural and earthy colours around my eyes. Some might say they're dull, but well blended these tones look great and really open up the eye. Soft browns, beiges and pearls go with any outfit and are suitable for day or night wear, they are versatile and can be blended differently to create impact or to soften darkly lined eyes. Palettes are such a good way for those who don't know how to combine colours to be given a little helping hand too!

I love subtle smokey eyes. And since my asian eyes are so tiny and I wear glasses. I could wear this look any day.
