It's no sercret that the Beauty Review Crew's favourite makeup trends right now are basic beauty looks. Gym lips had us puckering up, and the sunburned blush trend had us fanning ourselves. The latest look to turn our heads? Yet another Tiktok trend... cold girl makeup. It's a trend that's relatively easy to do and it looks super cute once done, but the big question is... Is it a look that those of us in the southern hemisphere ought to embrace?
So what is cold girl makeup, how do we get it, and can it truly be appreciated while we're in the throes of summer? Read on...
What is the cold girl look?
The cold girl look involves you looking like you've spent ten minutes in a deep freeze. Think blue skin and purple lips. I jest. It's that classic look of having been out and about on a truly chilly day. The kind of day where you pull out your cutest fluffy ear muffs, pull on your puffiest jacket and rock the fur-lined boots while throwing snowballs at your besties, or standing on the sidelines of some park in the middle of winter while your kids chuck a ball around. Think super pink cheeks, pinkish-red lips, a frosting of shadow, and natural looking but still Bambi-like lashes.
How do you get it?
First up - it's time to say no to the glow. Do hydrate your skin first with a good moisturiser and/or primer, but when it comes to your foundation base reach for a matte foundation.
Once your foundation is good to go, go in with your blush. First, take a cream blush and apply it on your cheeks, sweeping it up towards your temples, then run a little across the bridge of your nose. Then top if off with a dusting of powder blush in a similar colour to set the cream.
Next up... highlighter. Add this to your cupids bow and to the tip of your nose.
As for eyes? Keep it simple with a little sparkly eyeshadow, in an appropriately frosty shade, applied to your inner corners and on the centre of the lid. You can use your highlighter for this. Then make your peepers pop with a gentle application of mascara.
Finish the look off by taking a lip tint that mimics that chapped shade of lips you get after being out too long in the cold without applying any form of balm, and pop that on your kissers.
Is cold girl makeup for everyone?
Um... yes. Because makeup is for everyone. If you like the look you can break out the blush, pull out a lip tint, and lash yourself up with a dose of mascara, and step out looking hot... er, cool.
The thing is... how appropriate is the cold girl look for summer? Do we really have to wait until the colder months before we give it a go? But if we do give it a go while its 20-something degrees out, will we risk looking like we're simply overheating with our super-rosy cheeks? Or that we got into our mums makeup and decided to go all in on the foundation and blush? We're conflicted! How about you?
