You Won't Believe What Your Toothbrush Can Do!

I recently switched from a manual toothbrush to an electric one after my dentist explained I was brushing too hard, which was causing my gums to recede. While I was happy to do the swap because you only get two pairs of teeth and I’m onto my second lot and don’t want to ruin them, it did leave me with the dilemma of what to do with the couple of backup toothbrushes sitting in my bathroom cabinet just waiting to be used. Well it turns out toothbrushes have a fair few beauty uses. Who knew!?

This one I’m already fond of, but it’s still worth mentioning – and that’s using your toothbrush to exfoliate your lips. Just wet and scrub in small circular movements to remove dead skin cells, leaving you with smoother more kissable lips. More important than kissability, it’ll make your matte lippies go on easier and look prettier too.

Has humidity hit your hair resulting in a fluff factory of fly-aways surrounding your face? Grab a toothbrush, spray some hairspray onto it and then smooth down that halo of hair.

The hairspray/toothbrush trick can also be applied to unruly brows. Just spritz your brush with hairspray and then work the toothbrush through the eyebrows until they’re in a suitably sensational shape.

Has your mascara decided to throw a wobbly and clump up, leaving your lashes looking less lush and more spider-legged? Whip out your trusty toothbrush and brush through the clumps, starting at the base and heading out to the tips.

Want to get creative with your manicure? … oh and see what you’d potentially look like if you were to dress up as a Mummy for Halloween? You can use your toothbrush to create a splatter polish look on your nails! Check out this tutorial here

Few things remove the smile on my dial like going overboard with the dry shampoo and struggling to de-white the splodges on my hair. You’ll never believe it, but the answer to fixing this issue is as simple as grabbing your trusty toothbrush and using it to brush/work out the excess.

Speaking of colourific faux pas… if your fake tan’s gone patchy or orangey, mix up a concoction of lemon juice, baking soda and water, dip your toothbrush into it, and scrub at the offending spots until you’ve turned your fake tan frown upside down.

One last tip – want to give your hair a boost and can’t find your comb? A toothbrush will do the trick for teasing your hair. Just lift the hair, tease as you usually would at the back and you’ll be sporting some wicked volume soon enough.

So those are my favourite toothbrush tricks. Have you tried any of them before? Are they knew to you? Or have you found more ingenious ways of putting a toothbrush to good use? Sharing is caring!

I love the mascara tip, what a great idea. I will try that one out for sure. Not a beauty tip but I use them to remove soap scum from the shower glass!

I use old toothbrush for cleaning purposes. Never use for beauty hack. Good to know I can fix my brow with tooth brush and hair spray because my brow gel is finished.

Always will try anything to help with the halo of short curls! There are some really good ideas here, though most of my old tooth brushes end up being cleaning utensils for my partner's bike haha

Wonderful!! I use a manual and an electric, depends on how lazy I'm feeling as to which I use haha. The fake tan trick sounds good, going to give that a go!! :)

I saw a youtuber do the splatter effect with facepaint when she did a sugar skull, it looked really effective! I like to use old toothbrushes for cleaning, the bristles fit into every little groove :)

I had not thought of using a toothbrush like that before... just for teeth and well old ones for cleaning hard to get corners of the shower and around the bottom of tapware. Interested to know how your teeth go with the electric toothbrush as I have a similar problem with my teeth and gum recession from excessively hard brushing

These idea are all great. The only thing we use our old toothbrushes for is cleaning difficult spots in the shower.
