I love Essie nail polishes for quite a few reasons. They’re well priced, normally under $20. They have a great shade range and while they don’t bring new shades out like their main competitor the colours they have are vibrant and classic. Most importantly they wear really well. I find most polishes chip by the second day but used with a base coat and a couple of coats of the actual polish will still look good 5 days later (activity dependant of course). They apply easily and only need about 2 coats versus 3 with most other brands. I recently picked some up at the Chemist Warehouse for $9 and while they didn’t have a lot to choose from the colours they did have were pretty. Don’t be sold on the shade name alone as they can differ somewhat to the actual shade. I ordered Saltwater Happy and it seemed really blue online but it’s very purple on the nails. I would recommend using a top coat (from any brand) just to help keep the polish looking it’s best. I will be buying this brand again and again as I can’t stop looking at my nails when I have one of their gorgeous shades on.

essie nail polish is the best of i have used , its so easy to apply the color is so intense you dont need to apply the 2nd time which saves the product ,very beautiful colour as well.
I have several Essie nail polishes in a variety of finishes. Most of them are iridescent or glittery finishes, as that is what I prefer, but I do have a couple in a gel-like, shiny finish.
Most Essie polishes come in clear, square glass bottles with white lids, although I do have one in a twisted glass bottle that looks really cool. The older Essie polishes that I own have quite small brushes that take a while to apply the polish. The newer bottles I own have wider, flat brushes that can cover my nails in 3 strokes, which I really like.
These polishes dry very fast. This is especially good for the gel-like finish ones which can look streaky with only one coat. The polishes layer well. I can apply up to three coats without the polishes looking heavy.
The other great thing about Essie polishes is that they take longer than other polishes to chip. They tend to last for several days before any signs of wear start to show, and that is without taking any special care and just performing day to day activities. They have a paint smell, like all polishes do, but it is not overpoweringly strong.
Altogether I think these are very good nail polishes and some of the best that you can buy from department stores.
I love my Essie polishes and would recommend them to anyone.
I find the shade range to be good but no better than other brands (OPI etc). I don't really notice any difference between chippage with different brands. The areas that Essie does way better than other brands is the brush and the consistency of the polish. For these reasons alone I'll continue to buy Essie over other similarly priced brands.
I think Essie brushes are a tiny bit smaller than other brushes which allows me way more control when I paint my nails. If I'm using a red or a dark colour, I'll only use Essie otherwise I spent more time cleaning up around my nail than actually painting.
I find that all of my other polish brands get "gluggy" far earlier than my Essie polishes do. I've some Essie polishes for years and the consistency in the bottle is still the same as when I first got the bottle.
Essie have a great selection of colours. One of my favourite light pink polishes is from Essie and although a light colour, i only ever need to apply one or two coats. Always applies super smooth and lasts a pretty long time on the nail. Doesn't chip often'either which is always a bonus.
I can still remember promoting Eddie’s products at a Farmers many years ago. I was applying one of the gorgeous shades to a lady’s nails and explaining how long lasting these products were. She was very happy with the finished result and strolled away after chatting a while longer, waiting for them to dry. After an hour or so the lady came back and asked me to reapply the colour to some of her nails as they had chipped off! Maybe I should have applied a base and top coat but I didn’t have any on me at the time.
I love the quirky names for all the different colours and I swear by their “Help Me Grow” base coat, but overall not the most long lasting product. If you’re very careful with your hands and not clumsy like me then they might last a lot longer. In saying all that though, I’d rather use Essie products any day than O.P.I. The former is definitely longer lasting than the latter and also more affordable.
Tips: Use the “Help Me Grow” base coat, allow each coat to dry completely, and then use a nice top coat for shine and protection.
I tend to give a review a positive and a negative comment when I review an item and as this is my second review on here, I will try to be as positive as I can with it.
Ballet Slippers is a very pretty shade. Apparently it’s the only colour that Queen Elizabeth will wear on her nails. It’s a nude pink and although I was expecting something marvellous with the quality of this nail polish, I was not.
The first application was somewhat streaky on my nails and unfortunately it looked like I had added a layer of Twink correction fluid to my nails. Yes it is a pretty colour but unfortunately against my pale complexion it looked washed out and had to be reapplied so I could actually see some sort of colour on my nails. This also took a bit of time for it to dry too in between my two coats.
This nail varnish lasted approximately five days on my nails so that was a plus for me as I didn’t feel like reapplying it every other day. Like I said it is a lovely colour but unfortunately it didn’t do much for me. I purchased my nail polish via Beauty Bean, a Trade Me seller along with Tea and Crumpets another Essie colour that is more of a light metallic brown. This one stays longer on my nails for some reason and also is better for my skin tone.
This nail polish does not contain any metallic elements.
Tips: To enhance it’s longevity I would advise you to put a base and top coat on your nails.
Always applies smoothly and great colour range I find this brand always has the on trend colours available can separate in the bottle if sat for awhile but nothing a good shake cant fix.
I love essie they have colours for every occasion and in every shade. It last longer than other cutex brands. And there colour is bright and shiny
I loved the bright colour i received its one if my fave colours! The shape of the bottle was really different compared to other brands so i really liked it. This was the first time i have ever tried the essie brand and i would have to say that for the price you pay its really good but if you want it to last long you definitely need 2 coats but thats all and if you have a top coat it definitely makes it last a lot longer and makes it take longer to chip! Would really like to see more colours and i would like to see essie being sold in more places aswell.
Tips: Do at least 2 coats and definitely use a top coat.
