I never thought a brow powder would be as good as a pencil and I did not think it would last very long being powder based. How wrong was I? I am not one to use much make up, if any at all because I am not really into makeup...rather, choosing to sleep in for another 15 mins than spend time doing my face, and besides, I go to the gym most days and find it too much trouble to to reapply in my limited lunch hour. So, I mostly go ‘au naturale’ and only do my brows. Even though I have dark hair, my brows are very fine and also very sparse, and you can hardly see them. I have been experimenting with different brow pencils but have yet to find one that will stay on long enough during my lunch hour in the gym and then the rest of the afternoon at work without paying an exhorbitant price....until I tried this product. This looks like an eyeshadow, comes in a round silver container with a see through lid that twists off. At first I was quite sceptical about using it but it was recommended by the beautician at the Mecca store and I sampled it there. I was really impressed with how easily it was to apply and the look was stunning....looked really natural and the powder was so easy to apply, you brush it on just like eye shadow. It was amazing and it stays on for much longer than I thought it would. It’s not sweat resistant but it’s just as good as a brow pencil I have used that proclaims to be. I find if I just pat my face around that area without touching my brows, I don’t have to reapply after the gym and jt lasts til the end of the day. My brows are not symmetrical so they need a bit of artistry applied to them. I first outlined my brows with a brow pencil to make them look even as I have a higher arch on one side than the other and a lower arch on the opposite side to that. Then I used a brow brush that has a slanted brush at one end to apply the powder by using light brush strokes. After this I finished off using the spoolie at the other end of my brow brush to blend it all in. The shade of the powder I got was taupe which looked too light for my dark brows ( I have black hair) but was just perfect when applied, giving a very polished natural look. The powder pigment blended well into my brows giving them a really slick and tidy look.
The only thing I don’t like about this product is that it doesn’t come with a brow brush. If you don’t already have one of these, the outlay seems quite expensive but it lasts a long time snd given how quickly I get through brow pencils, it’s not too bad when you take that into account.
I've always used pencil to do my brows so this is my first brow powder and honestly I wonder I didn't get this sooner. Don't get me wrong I do love the pencils I have but this powder fills up all the gaps and sort of fluffs of my brow and makes it look fuller without giving it that draw look. The shade I have is Taupe and it is really versatile. Recently my brother had a blondish, lady friend stay over and she didn't bring any makeup over. She has thin sparse brows and didn't want to leave the house the next day without her brows, she asked if she could borrow some brow products. I was impressed on how it looked just as natural on her despite her fair skin and hair and it looks really natural on me as well despite my hair being almost black at the moment. She returned it and said she was so impressed she has to get this brow powder. I think Billion Dollar Brows did an amazing job creating this shade that suits most hair colors. This powder is pigmented enough that it fills in the front of my brows but doesn't look to bold like a pencil might. The color clings to my brows hairs and the skin underneath and blends really well giving me fuller brows but looks really natural. I could apply gel over this product but that would be to keep my brow hairs in place because this powder clings to my brow hairs and the skin underneath and doesn't smudge. Impressive considering some brow pencils I have used have smudged. This product comes in a simple little pot like an eye shadow single with a clear screw top and the logo and name of the company on the lid. You get 2g of product. When this powder runs out I will be repurchasing it, but I think it will be a very long time from now since this product will take forever to use up. I highly recommend this brow powder if you are after natural looking fuller brows and want some definition but don't want that tailored penciled done up look. It might be pricey but it will last you a long time.
Tips: Taupe is the one recommended for most hair shades but if you aren't sure, try to check if any stores near you sell BDB so you can check. If you are a make up artist this would be a great addition to your kit. I highly recommend getting a good stiff angle brush and a spoolie brush to stipple and brush the color onto your brows and the spoolie brush to blend and comb your brows. The BDB Dual Ended Brow Brush is great but if you are tight on funds there are cheaper angled brushes and spoolies that work well.
