I like how compact these are, I have a few of the minis and they barely take up any space in my makeup bag or handbag. The formula is very thin and it feels like nothing on the lips, but has a lot of pigment. I like the crayon design, it makes it so easy to apply. Over time it starts to dry my lips out but I just apply some balm over the top if needed. Nice shade range too.

I bought one of these velvet matte lip pencils a while back and while I adore the colour it is quite drying and does not look as clean/tidy as my other non-matte NARS lip pencils do.
It does last for a long time but it wasn't as non-drying as advertised, and would often feather on my lips without the application of something else beneath it.
Tips: Works much better for me with a lip balm underneath
I got a mini size of this in the shade cruella, a gorgeous sexy blue based red. The color reminds me of Mac Russian red, but seems less bright. It applies really smoothly and doesn't drag at my lips. It feels soft and buttery after its applied and doesn't seem to dry out my lips like some other matte lip products (ahem lime crime velvetines). This stays ok even when I drink water, but it smudges off when I eat a proper meal. It doens't settle into my lip wrinkles throughout the day and I hardly ever need to reapply. Only thing I really really hate about this is that they're not retractable. I don't have a jumbo pencil sharpener so I've no idea how to sharpen this. Wished they made it in better packaging!
I received the deluxe size (1.8g) from Mecca Cosmetica as part of the Beauty Loop rewards program. I was excited because I love mattes!! I have the shade Dolce Vita which is a warm brown base rose. The colour of the shade is on the end of the pencil which I think is a fair indication of the colour and makes it easy to identify amongst your collection.
These pencils will be great for those who tend to shy away from opaque colors because they go on sheer and is easily blended out if you feel it's too dark. I need to swipe it 3 to 4 times to get the opacity I like. The product glides on so effortlessly I tend to forget it's part of the matte family.
When I wear this product I do tend to blot my lips a lot because I'm looking for that full matte finish. It leaves a lovely stain which I build up until I get the pay off I want. This method of application helps the colour last about 5 hours on my lips however without blotting I'm looking at 2-3hours.
As much as I like this pencil I don't reach for it as much and it's mainly because I have more affordable lip pencils that give me the matte finish I like without having to blot so I don't see myself purchasing a full size one.
I received a sample of this as a birthday gift from Sephora and was really excited to try my very first Nars product.
The colour was nice and pigmented, and easy to apply. It did feather and bleed though and became VERY drying on my lips. I had to slather on the lip balm for quite a while afterwards.
I haven't tried it again. I think the only way I could make the lip pencil work is by prepping my lips really well with lip balm first and then using a lip liner before applying the pencil.
Tips: Use a lip liner and prep your lips with a lip balm!
If you want a perfect and easy lip buy Nars. They are so pigmented so the colour is perfect and stays on for hours. All day in some cases. I would recommend this to everyone, their colours range from nude to red and create the best bold lip.Dragon Girl is by far the best lip pencil if you want the classic red lip.
Tips: You only need a little when touching up
i love love love this formula. It goes on so pigmented and smooth. its really easy to apply because of the shape of the pencil. I have heard of some people not liking that you need the special sharpener for it, but its not very expensive and its really good, also has a small sharpener with it to do other pencils. It is very matte but without being drying. After application it is initially able to be spread to any missed areas by pressing lips together. After a few minutes it has very little transfer. I have this in 3 different colours and all of them are equally pigmented and gorgeous. It doesn't really have any smell. The pencil quality is really good, and actually lasts a really long time. The colour lasts almost the whole day, and probably would for some people. Im not very good at eating with lip stuff on, and need to reapply after that. Even after eating tho the colour is very good, and it doesn't spread off of your lips.
I would recommend these to anyone. The colour range has something to suit everyone.
Tips: For a touch up sometimes all you need is to rub your finger over your lips to spread as it is so pigmented you don't even need to use it again.
There is a lot to love about these pencils. They are so convenient! Line and fill and you're good to go - no chance of mistake and perfect colour match!
In terms of size, the pencils are not as fat as a chubby stick, but they're also not as thin as a traditional pencil - I love the size as it works perfectly for both lining and filling - not too big and not too small.
The pencil goes on very smoothly, and feels fantastic. Not at all drying, it lasts for ages and the colour is very vibrant.
I find using these pencils to be so much easier than the traditional line and fill with lipstick - typically lip liners are too drying to get away with filling, but not with the Nars pencil.
I bought as a set - Cruella in the Matte, and a second colour Rikugien in the Satin. I actually prefer the Rikugien (for the colour, it's a more browish-red, whereas Cruella is very red) but both pencils are amazing, I would absolutely buy again.
I have two of these and yes they're both red. Different reds. I am in love with these. I will cry when they run out. These set the bar for matte lip products.
Dragon Girl is what I would call a poppy red. It's got blue undertones and a slight bent towards pink.
Cruella is a classic blue red but a little on the dark side.
As for staying power, these two have it in spades. Dragon Girl has survived a large takeaway mocha, sushi for lunch and yoghurt for a snack. Minimal touch up required. The same applies for Cruella. I get so many compliments when I wear either of these.
As an aside, the satin lip pencils are also just as good but don't have the same longevity. I have Rikugien and its my perfect MLBB shade.
Tips: Buy the NARS sharper as its the perfect size for these pencils (why can't all pencils be the same?!?!?)
This lip pencil is lovely - I love the design and easy to pop in your handbag. The colours are beautiful and the quality is amazing too. I brought a few from Mecca and I love the shade Dolce Vita.
It is my go-to lippie and the shade is perfect.
This is another winner from Nars, I also love sheer glow foundation and also orgasm blush. This lip pencil is on my top favourite three of Nars products. Just devine.
