Mellow Baked Eyeshadow in Gold Review

I was excited when I saw Mellow Baked Eyeshadow being added to the recent Beauty Review vault. Having a few other Mellow items I know that it was going to be an awesome product.

Packaging, this wee cute eyeshadow comes in a simple black plastic base with a domed clear acrylic lid that flips up and snaps down tight to keep the powder air tight. Inside sits the baked powder in a slight dome.

Formula wise this swatched as powdery when I trialled it before applying it to my eyelids plus the colour disappointed me, I was expecting gold but this is better described as a golden sand with a undertone of orange through it. Applying to the lid it worked really well, with and without primer, the only thing the primer added was a bit more intensity of colour. Blending evenly, with no creasing or fall out. There is no shimmer at all in this eyeshadow and it lasts on the skin without interruption for at least a days wear.

It hasn't put me off going to purchase more eyeshadows from the mellow range, they will be perfect de-potted into a z-palette domed so would be interested in creating a mellow themed palette. The only reason I have given it such a middle ground marking is because the texture and let down in colour expectation.

The Mellow Baked Eyeshadow in Gold is a beautiful wee product, and I ended up loving it! It comes as a single colour in a cute wee flip-top pot, and is a baked shadow. First thing to mention - this colour is STUNNING! A very pretty, shimmery, light gold that isn't nearly as overwhelming or intense as other golds I've tried. On the skin it provides a subtle but super pretty shimmer, and looks extra lovely over a light brown tone. It lasts well all day.

As a side note, I also LOVE that this company values avoiding parabens and including mineral powders! So great.

I was fortunate to receive one of these in the recent Beauty review vault. I am a huge fan of Mellow Cosmetics, one is because they are made here in New Zealand, the second reason is they are very affordable and the third they have a wide selection of products. So I couldn't pass up this opportunity in adding another of their baked eye shadows to the collection.

This one is in Gold, it has a yellow tone to it and it is very shimmery, the pigmentation in this one isn't as pigmented as the rest of the range and I find I have to swipe a good amount of product onto my eye shadow brush to get a decent amount of color. It gives a subtle but goddess look to your eyelids, You could use this as a golden highlight if you like.

The wear time is all day, there is no creasing or fading with this eye shadow, which is an added bonus.

I am slightly disappointed in the pigmentation of this one but it hasn't stopped me from wanting to purchase more of their collection.

This comes in a good handy size. I use it daily and looks like I've barely touched it so a little goes a long long way.

No smell and blends really well all day even through the heat.

It has a little shimmer and goes on easily. Couldn't recommend it more.

I got this in the NZ Brands BBBE and when I saw the pan I immediately made a mental note to try it out as a higlight - um you may want to skip that idea. The packaging is the same as ELF's Baked Highlighters, only smaller. The shade appears more peach coral gold and has a lot of fine glitters which gives off a lovely sheen when blended.

The powder feels smooth and doesn't go on chalky or powdery. The colour pay off is great and I love that it still retains its intensity when blended. The real problem for me is the staying power. Admittedly I have oily lids and I prime my lids well but I find that the shadow tranfers and fades on me. I have hooded lids so I understand that placement of product is important but I find glitter above my crease where there isn't any shadow.

I get 2 hours of wear before I'm left with shimmer that has either transferred to other areas of the eyes or has sunk into the lines. This is the main reason why the shadow didn't work out as a highlight for me. I think the colour is stunning and could easily pass as one of my favourites but the staying power is the only thing stopping me from repurchasing.

Another of my grabs from the Beauty Vault, I was excited to try this after hearing the hype about Mellow eyeshadows. The packaging is very pretty, a simple black with a clear hinge lid container, good so that you can easily see what colour shadow it is. Just looking at it, the colour looks incredible, a beautiful gold with a bit of shimmer to it. On using it, I didn't get quite the colour payoff I was expecting. Again, the colour is pretty, but I need quite a bit on my brush to get a decent amount of pigmentation. It is perfect for using under and in the corners of my eyes, and as a bit of a highlighting colour. For the price of it I still think it is well worth owning.

I got this from the BBBE, I was excited to trying it out as I haven’t used any Mellow cosmetics before.

It is such a beautiful shimmery gold colour, however it does not stay true to the colour, and the beautiful gold colour won’t show up on your lids. I don’t find it pigmented but a little bit of the dry/powdery side. The good side is the colour is buildable, you just need to keep applying until the colour shows up. You will need an eye primer to set the colour. It helps to bring out the best colour and help it to last longer. Even with a primer, you will also have to touch-up a few times during the day as the shadow fades by the end of the day. So as far as longevity, this eyeshadow is not long lasting. The colour does not blend really well, it just sits there.

You can’t beat the prize and it is super affordable. It is not a high end product, but it could be decent for those starting out with makeup or those who don't want to break the bank on eye-shadows.

This baked eye-shadow did not impress me. I would not recommend this. However, I haven’t tried other colours yet, some colours can be more pigmented and blend more easily than others.

I had never heard of the cosmetic brand until I received it in the New Zealand brand beauty box. I like the packaging and the pan was a descent size but I did have a slightly struggle to open it. The application of the product itself was easy, the eyeshadow guides on nicely and blended well. It looked fantastic for about an hour until I was left with just shimmer on my eyes and face. I really wanted to like this product as the colour is beautiful but has a lack of staying power. I think personally It was too highly pigmented so I will not be repurchasing this again unless they change the formula.

I have to say I wouldnt purchase this product off the shelf myself partly because I hav never heard of the brand before and partly because the packaging is quite unappealing!! However Im glasd I didnt have a choice in the matter as the pigment in the shadow is incredible and with such a gorgeous color I was very excited to use the product after I swatched it. When I used it, it blended in really well and I had no difficulties in application! BUT the product transfers really badly and I had issues with it staying in place. I ended up with a lot in my crease emphasising the lines on my eyes which is never great. Essentially I cam home not looking great by the end of the day which was a disappointing end to how great the product started

I received this as part of the NZ Brands Beauty Box. I had not heard of Mellow before, but I was excited to find their eyeshadow in the box as I thought it looked really cool.

I usually wear neutral shadows on my eyes, a lot of browns and golds, sometimes green or purple, mainly colours that compliment brown eyes. This shade of gold is nice and subtle, even though it looks bright in the container. In fact it looks more ochre than it does true gold.

It is easy to apply, and goes on smoothly, providing a flattering and eye-brightening shimmer.
