I have in the last few years started using bar soap as hand soap. I had been hoarding it for long enough and I decided that enough was enough, and I was going to use up my problem. Beauty Review is always adding to my problem, not that I mind. I love soap!
This soap is so gorgeous. Depending on what kind of cut you get, your soap can look like seaweed floating in seafoam atop beautiful blue waters. It can look like seaweed afloat in the same blue waters, with dots of seafoam. Or, you can turn it upside down and have beautiful blue on top of the mysterious black abyss that is the ocean floor, or the bottom of a rock pool. Any way you look at this soap, it’s a work of art.
The smell of the soap I thought was quite subtle. Even smelling it when it was brand new I couldn’t really pick up any definitive smells. It definitely smells clean, kinda like a citrusy breeze with an undertone of something that makes me think of the ocean. It doesn’t fully transport me beach side with a martini that Alejandro the pool boy just bought me, but it does wake me up and invigorate my senses.
However. I had mine wrapped, yet the color still faded. I think that because of this, the soap doesn’t work nearly as well, or smell nearly as good as it should. I have to work hard to get a lather, twisting the soap in my hands several times. As it’s a solid cube, you can imagine how hard that can be! My hands have finally worn down the edges (a knife may have been used) and while it’s easier to slip around in my hands now I still have trouble trying to work up a lather. The smell, now that I’ve been using it, now that it’s ‘old’, is not nearly as good as when I first sniffed it. Now, it just smells like soap, and the undertone is citrusy, my martini and Alejandro nothing but a distant memory.
My hands (as I don’t use solid soaps on my body) don’t get nearly as soft as I thought they would considering how great the ingredients sound on paper. They just feel like normal hands, normal skin. Maybe slightly dried out skin because of the salt. Perhaps the problem isn’t the soap, it was mine for letting it sit so long without use, but it was wrapped so I feel like that shouldn’t have happened. I do like this soap, but not enough to buy it again, free or not.
This is actually another lovely Lush soap - but it looks marine and smells like lavender, which entirely weirded me out!
The deep green colour is gorgeous, and lather/rinse/skin feeling is as for most other Lush soaps; not too stripping and imparts a lovely soft fragrance.
I'd happily buy this again - all Lush soaps are worth the price, in my book.
