I got this as a reward on Sephora and was super keen because it’s sort of aimed towards dry skin and claims to set your makeup while keeping you from looking.. parched. In terms of makeup setting, it was okay. Not amazing, but definitely okay. I mean, it could have also been the makeup I was using didn’t really hold up to their claims of staying on. I didn’t really notice any extra moisture, or really anything different. Honestly, it would have been the same effect whether I used it or not. But again, might have just been the foundation I was using. I’ve definitely found better makeup setting sprays from this brand! The scent wasn’t offensive and as you can see the packaging is gorgeous and very eye-catching. Easy and simple to use.

Reviews
I love Tarte overall but this wasn't the one for me. Luckily I have it in a mini from Sephora. The smell isn't particularly nice but I don't usually judge a product on that unless the smell lingers too long. I don't agree it acts as a primer ... At least not on my dry skin. I also didn't find it smoothing at all. It's not really bad but for the cost of stick to the Urban Decay or go cheaper with the Morphe
I was so excited when Sephora NZ started selling Tarte and it has since become one of my favourite brands. This product however fell pretty flat for me as a setting mist. I have combination oily skin and after trying this spray over different foundation/powder combinations I can say that this increased my shine incredibly. I normally need to touch up at around the 3-4 hour mark with other setting sprays I’ve used but with this one it’s only an hour or so before I’m a greasy mess. I love the smell of this spray and the mist itself is quite fine but it’s definitely not aimed at oilier skin types. I would not buy this product again.
I got a cute mini of this in the Tarte Skin Squad Deluxe Discovery Set. Now I haven't really got experience with setting sprays since this is my first one. When I spritz this on my face it goes on like a toner but when it dries down it feels just the slightest bit sticky. You don't feel it on your face just if you touch your face it's the tiniest bit sticky. So I skipped my usual primer and my foundation went on just as well as if I had used a primer and I got the same wear time. It was so convenient to just spray and not have to make sure my primer was applied evenly. Next I used it as a setting spray. I applied a full face of makeup and spritzed this on. The mist was fine enough that it didn't look like I stepped outside when it was sprinkling with my makeup on. It took away the powdery finish and helped the makeup mesh more into my skin and give a more natural finish. I definitely saw my makeup on my face look fresher for a bit longer. My foundation separated around my nose after a few hours but it always does that. Now I didn't see a difference in terms how my makeup wore where I have fine lines. I think that has more to do with my skincare. But for this being the first priming setting spray I used I really liked it. I also liked that it has natural ingredients. It does have alcohol second on the list but I heard that pretty much all setting sprays do. I would consider repurchasing this.
Tips: Great 2-in-1 option if you are traveling and want to cut down on bringing a primer. I think the slight stickiness would be great for foiling eyeshadows. Every few months the Tarte website has free shipping so if you wait till then to order you can save yourself expensive shipping fees.
I picked up the skin squad deluxe discovery set during Tarte's boxing day sale and inside was the mini version of this setting mist.
I wasn't exactly sure what to expect from this product as I hadn't tried many setting spray before this one. However I did know the benefits of a setting spray so was excited mostly to see how well it keep my makeup in place over an entire day during the heat of summer weather.....It did not disappoint.
the first thing I noticed when I applied the mist was that it was exactly that a fine mist. Rather than something that comes out like hair spray from a can the mist was fine and light and didn't eave obvious spots or dots on my face when it hit it.
it absorbed into my skin rather nicely and didn't leave it feeling sticky (yip I've had one do this before). It felt refreshing and smelt refreshing.
The real test would be seeing how well it locked my makeup in place. I must admit I spritzed it over my face 3 times to get an even coverage. It does an incredible job. over an 8 hour day I had the normal makeup wear (heat + sweat) but not anything overly dramatic that'd you'd expect from a full day in the heat with a full face of makeup on, my makeup was still in place and wasn't sliding off and that was an epic win!
Now they state it helps reduce redness and appearance of pores.....1. I don't have redness so I can't say weather that's correct but, large pores? Yes. and No it did nothing for my pores. Didn't make them appear smaller what so ever, but it is still really refreshing to add to the skin with or without makeup on. I'm just not 100% sure it's beneficial for the skin without makeup on. That's my opinion any way.
Would I repurchase? 100% yes! and I Did. As soon as my mini ran out I purchased the full size.
Tips: Best to hold it at arm length away from you face and spritz.
I’ve done a mini review of this wondrous product but I requested the full size be added as well because I think it’s just that darn amazing. I first got a mini of this in a kit called Skin Squad Deluxe Discovery set (what a mouthful) and I fell head first into my summer face saving life saver. Fast forward 4 months and here I am purchasing yet another kit but for a bigger size. This happens to go for $22 by itself so I was extremely pleased to get it in a set on Boxing day for only $20 – Usually $57 – making it $5 as the set came with 3 other things.
There isn’t much difference between this size, the mini and the big bottle except the mini is see through and the other 2 bottles are purple. All three have gold and purple pumps, clear lids and the gorgeous Rainforest of the Sea labelling. On both the mini and the travel sized bottles I have, the spray mists out quite finely and doesn’t over saturate my face.
I mentioned in my review for the mini that I thought this smelled quite bizarre, and I couldn’t pick a scent family for it. I think I’ve finally settled on one, as it’s a lot easier to smell in a bigger bottle which is weird. It’s very citrusy. Every smell to me is different but I do get the occasional whiff of lemon curd. Luckily, there is orange peel oil in this so I’m not going completely insane. I also get a slightly herbal smell, which I think comes from the lavender. It’s a weird mix but the smell doesn’t last long, so I can get over it and still enjoy the product.
This product is also a 4 in 1, something Tarte seem to like to do with their products, and I’m not complaining. It claims to prime your skin, reducing your pores and getting your skin ready for makeup, set said makeup in place, hydrate like a toner (I guess) and refresh in general, which makes me think this would be amazing kept in the fridge. I’ve only tried using this as a setting spray, so I can’t comment on how well it works at doing the other things. I’ve found what it works best as for me, so I’m not about to waste it and start using it willy nilly!
I’ve sprayed this on my face to set my makeup in place, and it lasted well over 6 hours. Sure, I had general fading but I think that’s to be expected when you touch your face/sweat/whatever. It’s nothing a quick touch up wouldn’t fix if you had the tools on you. I however didn’t mind as it was nearing the end of the day and I knew it’d be coming off soon. I’ve also sprayed this on my sponge before blending out my BB cream, and I really enjoyed that too. I think it would be very good to use for eyeshadows as well. I’d purchase this again, set or no set. It’s my new favorite thing!
Glad I only tried the mini it was abit dissatisfied with this. I have others ,much cheaper that do a much better job Beautiful bottle though.
