I got this nail polish awhile ago when magnetic nail polish was first released. I love doing nail art and I loved the magnetic look and the cool patterns it made. Sadly I grew bored of the magnetic look and this type of nail polish has also become less popular and moved out of "fashion". I was quite impressed with this polish and how well it worked. Firstly, I found this polish easy to use. Some people would find it too fiddly as you have to apply your polish first and then quickly turn the brush upside down and hold the magnet above your nail. However, I have a steady hand and did not have any issues. I found that you get the best results when you hold the magnet closet your nail, not touching your nail though. So try and get the magnet as close as you can.
This polish dries reasonably fast as well, so I would recommend to paint one nail at a time, rather then paint all five then go along and hold the magnet above the nail. I also make sure to position the brush the right way, so that I can quickly turn it upside over my nail straight away. The magnet effect also happens quite fast, you only need to hold the magnet above your nail for 5-10 seconds at the most.
I always put a top coat, and if you do I would make sure to apply a decent amount of top coat, otherwise the top coat brush drags the magnetic polish base and smudges it. The brush is a nice size and allows you to easily apply the polish. The consistency of this polish is smooth, maybe a tad on the thick side. I find the polish itself goes a bit tacky and sticky after a while, so the bottle will only last a few months.
I did find that this polish chipped quite easily even with a top coat. But for a cheap polish it's not too bad. Overall, I think this polish is really good for the price. I would buy more colours, except I'm a bit bored of the magnetic look now.
I bought one of these years ago at one of those parallel import makeup sales. I think it was only $4 or $5 but I had never seen magnetic polish before so bought a black one out of curiosity. The bottle has this little magnet which you hold over your nails to create a sort of holographic effect.
The application took quite a few tries to figure out exactly how to hold the magnet on my nails. It was a bit difficult with the magnet being attached to a dripping brush but I discovered you could remove just the magnet part so it was like a tiny button. That made it way easier to do.
The application is quite smooth and surprised me because I had expected gritty chunks or the like since it would have to have metal powder in it. It dried to a nice shiny finish and looked quite cool with the magnetic pattern on it. One problem though was that because of the magnetic pattern, I couldn't wait for the first coat to dry and do a second coat. So I ended up with half opaque black nails. If this had been a little less opaque so that one application was sufficient then I'd like it a lot more.
Not sure if it's because of whatever they put in to make it magnetic but this chipped really easily. Even with a topcoat and a foolproof basecoat on, this lasted 3 days max. And everyone knows black nailpolish looks the worst when it's chipped. So this really wouldn't work if you were after a week long mani.
When I removed it there wasn't much staining (thank god) but the sides where my nail goes into skin had little hints of black left over which was a little difficult to remove.
Overall this isn't too bad for its price and the novelty factor. I definitely wouldn't use this as a serious kind of polish and only recommend it for those who want to try out something new (albeit a little messy).
