I have been a sufferer of not so much dandruff, but of sensitive scalp to chemicals. As a result my scalp misbehaves and has the odd times that it flakes. I had tried every lotion and potion known to man, even doctor prescribed stuff. Some worked for a certain amount of time but then it became worse. Others made no difference whatsoever. That is when I stumbled upon this baby on the Lush website a few months back. It quickly found its way in to my trolley and straight in to my mailbox a few days later.
The tin it comes in is not overly huge but it was enough considering I don't need to use much. The superbalm itself is faded mint green in colour and smells quite earthy and citrusy but then that is my senses take on it. It may be different for others. It's a weird consistency, almost like hair wax.
Of course thinking I knew best I dug straight in without reading instructions. I rubbed it in to my scalp and a few days later expected results. I never saw them! I was discouraged so ended up reading them and behold I was using it wrong! Sheesh what a silly bugger I felt like! I was supposed to use it in the shower and then rinse it out before I shampoo. Followed by an aha! moment I tried it this way.
Two weeks down the track I had the biggest grin on my face whilst looking in the mirror at the results. My scalp was no longer red and irritated. I found no flaking. It felt like a normal scalp should feel! But with my skepticism I had to hold out and not get my hopes up too high. From past experiences I was let down at the two month mark.
Two months have come and gone and my hair remains flake free, not irritated and just a joy to own! I no longer have pain! I can wear black clothes without fear! I give this baby a five star all round score, because it's just that perfect!
I have been struggling with dry scalp lately and it didn't seem to matter what I used I was still getting dry, itchy, flaky scalp. Lush Superbalm was recommended to me by a fellow Lushie.
The smell is quite yucky, can't put my finger on it, but it smells a bit like herbal playdough ha ha ha. Not a pleasant scent at all.
With the scent still floating around my nostrils I was not feeling the product, but pressed on because I know that sometimes the best products have the worst smell.
I read the instructions which was to apply a small amount onto your scalp and massage it in. It literally felt like I was applying gritty sand to my hair, it was extremely hard to work with even though it came into contact with the heat of my skin which melts the product.
I left it on my scalp for the amount of time it said on the pot, can't remember what it was if I'm honest, and then got in the shower to wash out as instructed. Took ages to get out of my hair and it made no difference to my scalp in fact it just made it greasy despite rinsing it out a couple of times and irritating my scalp even more.
Sadly this probably has to be the worst Lush product I've used so far (sorry Lush you know how much I love you).
The only positive thing was the price as a little bit goes a long way and for such a small pot, it definitely would last you quite a while. I will be gifting mine though sadly.
