I have the darkest shade out of the 6 femme nudes. It has an amazing name - wait for it - Nude No. 6..really!? I'm sure you can guess the names of the other five.
No. 6 is described as a mauve nude. If you own MAC Blankety you won't need this. The other day I walked out of the house with top lip in No. 6 and bottom in Blankety :-) Having said that, colours can appear differently on other people.
It's a retractable lip crayon packaged in Hourglass' signature elegant packaging which means it has the same issue with fingerprints. I'm not a huge fan of lipstick packaging that differs from the standard bullet but it looks luxurious so I can let that slide.
It glides on smoothly but just like Blankety I noticed that I can't wear this shade without a natural/rosy lip liner underneath. Unfortunately when I tried it on in Mecca I had on lip liner so I didn't pick up on this which could have saved me $46.
Without a lip liner I will most likely get "what the heck" stares because it appears more beige on my bare lips and throws me into the zombie category (yes chocolate beauties can be zombies too hehe). The more layers you apply the creamier it becomes and the product tends to move so when you press your lips together you leave a mark behind.
I didn't notice my lips appearing more plump or full but I suppose that's because the colour doesn't work for me. Also the "precision lining" claim is only true until you flatten out the tip which in my case was day 3 so that's an epic fail because it's not as if you can 'sharpen' this. I don't believe it's a long lasting formula I can only get 2-3 hours of wear and by then it's already faded if not feathered (even with a lip liner).
I feel the range is more complimentary to fair skin beauties so for those who are darker you're probably better off skipping these unless you don't mind applying lip liner or you're going for a role in a zombie movie ;-)
My mission to find the perfect nude lip continues..
Tips: To make it work for my skin tone I use any one of the following lip liners to pair with No. 6 - MAC Stripdown, Spice or Whirl - NYX Peekaboo Neutral, Ever or Natural
