Amazing for itchy skin

This was another item I received in a Christmas gift box, I have seen the porridge bar several times on the website but it never appealed to me since it had the word 'porridge' in it. I'm no goldilocks, I'm not a huge fan of porridge let alone putting it on my body. So this sat around at the back of the lush stash for ages, unused, unloved, lonely. Until I decided It maybe wasn't so bad and I might actually like it.

So off I go to the shower armed with my porridge bar. It's a creamy looking bar with loads of seeds through it, I start scrubbing my bod with this bar and holy moly those wee seeds that act like an exfoliant are BRILLIANT!! I have really dry and horribly itchy skin on my lower back and top of my thighs so bad I will itch them till I bleed-literally. (Probably health related) Usually water aggravates those itchy patches but with the porridge bar It instantly calms the itching and I can enjoy the rest of the shower itch free! Yes it is a tad messy with all the oat bits in it falling out on the bottom of the shower but so worth it.

Afterwards my skin feels soft and slightly nourished and definitely itch free.

I feel so bad for the porridge bar being so unloved for such a long time as it really is the best thing I have bought in a long time. I have repurchased this and will do until probably forever even if I use other products I always start with this bar.

Messy

I recently did a lush haul and this was part of it. I got a nice big bar, I think it was 100 grams and so far, I've had 5 showers with it and it's well over half gone. Economical it is not. I even store it outside the shower when not in use.

It is extremely gentle on my skin, so thumbs up for that, but the mess it leaves in my shower is ridic. I have to give the shower a shower once I've finished! The oat bits do feel very nice on my skin while I'm using it but I honestly can't be bothered with something so messy that I have to clean up after myself once I've used it. Def not on the repurchasing list - Sorry Lush

Call me Goldilocks

This was my first Lush ever, and it started an addiction. Before i even opened the Lush parcel, i could smell this beautiful sweet scent, and i had no idea what it was until i opened this wee package of goodness.

So because it from Lush, you can chose what size chunk you get. i only got 100g, because this stuff is pricey! It came in a sweet little square slab, wrapped in the basic lush package. Nothing special.. but its from Lush so you know packaging is not an issue for me.

The soap is a beige colour, which sounds gross so lets call it a milky caramel colour is is grainy to touch because it is filled up with bits of oats.

The smell.. ah its smells sweet and amazing. It has caramel sweetness, and a warming oaty scent which just makes it smell so good!

So this soap is half soap, half exfoliating bar. I find the soap does an okay job of cleansing. It creates a slight lather, but not much foam which i actually quite like. It slightly exfoliates. but not really effectively, and it leaves chunks of oats everywhere!

Overall, this is an okay soap and an okay exfoliatior. It smells amazing, but isn't really wow'ing. Would i purchase it again? Honestly, even though i loved the smell and the idea behind the soap, it didn't really do a lot for my skin so i wouldn't buy it again.

Actually, I just brought another one in the Boxing Day sale so when it arrives I will try it on my face and let you know

I never used it on the face, but I think it could easily be used on the face. The exfoliating bits are chunky, but soft so not too abrasive (from what I remember)

Is this more for body than face hun?

Messy and wonderful

I swear by this. Its such a great gentle exfoilator and smells beautiful. Just writing this review makes me want to buy some more. It made a huge difference when I was using it, as it was gentle enough to use each time I showered. It did leave my shower a bit messy, but its nothing a quick rinse can't fix.

Too many bits!

I got this soap in a Christmas gift pack from Lush. This soap does what it says it will in terms of exfoliating and making you clean. My skin is quite sensitive at times and this was nice and gentle on my skin. This soap smells good, I really liked the scent. The only downside of this was the bits in it. There were so many freaking bits in this soap. The bits did a really good job of exfoliating my skin but oh my gosh I and then the shower floor were covered in them. I used the whole bar of soap up but to be honest I wouldn't repurchase this because the bits drove me insane.

Yes, I agree about too many bits. It's annoying to have to clean up after using it!

Lush Porridge Soap, Not Really Exfoliating!

I was gifted this by a lovely member of this site. I have to say that as soon as I opened the package I was greeted by the lovely scent of caramel and a sort of cinnamon type of scent. It smells really nice. I use this with a shower puff and my only complaint is that the bits of oat get stuck in my shower puff and that there's a bit of SLS in it which I prefer if it didn't. But other than that I haven't had any allergic reactions to it and it smells really nice. I have it in the shower and my family likes to use it. Unfortunately it doesn't scent my skin but it is pleasant to use. I probably wouldn't repurchase because of the SLS and because I would prefer to try out more Lush's other soaps but in the meantime I'm enjoying using this in the shower.

Tips: It is supposed to be exfoliating for your skin but it's very light exfoliation at best. So wouldn't recommend this as a body scrub. It does lather up nicely with a shower puff but you will have to rinse all the bits of oat out of it.

Smells good & feels good but is messy

I purchased this soap last year in the boxing day sale online. I recommend not keeping soaps for this long or maybe transferring them out of the plastic. Mine had kind of leaked in the plastic bag and was a bit messy. It hadn't gone mouldy or anything though so I just rinsed off the top layer and it was good to go!

This soap is a kind of beige colour with lots of oaty and seedy looking bits in it. I think it looks really appealing but in reality the bits are kind of annoying. I understand they are there for exfoliating but I don't really think they do the best job and I just am using this for handsoap anyway so exfoliating doesn't bother me!

This does smell really good. It doesn't remind me of porridge at all. It smells sort of creamy and sweet, not like a milk cream though if that makes any sense. It's not an overpowering scent at all, more just chilled and subtle.

I find this lathers up well and doesn't seem to dry out my hands. I do enjoy using this and have purchased it a previous time before. After using a lot of other lush soaps, it isn't my fave and I do prefer others over it but I could maybe see myself buying this one again in the future. I'd recommend giving this a sniff instore, I think the scent would appeal to most people. It just depends on whether 'bits' annoy you or not!

I'd prefer toast I think!

I got this loving what it promised. I have very dry sensitive skin so the fact that it promised to gently exfoliate and cleanse while making my skin appear brighter and keep it clear. Gimme, gimme, gimme please! I have made a face mask with oats in it so thought wow it's got to be good with that in it surely. I bought a small $8 lump of it and immediately took it home to try it out. First impressions was mmmm yum this smells amazing, just like caramel like it says.

Upon wetting it, and rubbing it all over my skin a milky substance spreads with it. It's like a milk bath. I find the oats actually clog up our plug hole in the shower and that the soap itself melts away if it's under hot water for too long. Once I rinsed off the excess my skin did feel like it had been polished smooth with out the rough scratchy feeling of a scrub.

This is all in the most part good stuff, however, a day later my skin felt drier than it had before I started using it. It started peeling and flaking. I didn't think much of it but after using this soap for two weeks my skin was in worse condition than it was starting on this journey. I found the polished look was just the feeling after using it but then it starts the process of drying and peeling after every wash. My skin needed urgent attention after this. I was prescribed fatty cream to apply daily to get the moisture back in to dry, cracking and bleeding skin! It's supposed to be for sensitive skin! I would think it would be better for those with oily sensitive skin rather than dry.

Tips: Use a powerful moisturizer afterwards. I found it dries you out alot.

Hmmnn not for me..

When I finally opened this from a pack I bought at the New Year sale, it looked a bit sticky and yicky. But when I opened the pack? Pow!! What a divine scent!

The soap itself is an odd pale colour, and when it hits the water it becomes very grainy on the outside. It is sweet and creamy as it claims to be, and is easy to handle and use.

I find it a little exfoliating, without being harsh, and is quite invigorating on my skin. I certainly feel clean and soft after using it.

In spite of being creamy, it doesn’t dissolve very fast, so the bar was lasting well. However I got sick of all the detritus in the bath after using it, and I don’t like washing lumpy stuff down the drain, so I threw it away. And that was the deal-breaker for me - I don’t like bits floating around and sticking to the bath after I’ve let the water out.

To be honest I think I’d rather just stick to Miranda soap.

Just like mums Porridge

During lushes pre boxing sale I went into the Lush Botany store for my first experience. I walked around, the staff there were friendly and gave a demonstation of Yuzu shower gel. During that time I decided to get Its Christmas box that had this and Rose jam both of which I really wanted to try after all the reviews. I unwrapped this box and instantly this soap scent hits you.

This soap bar comes in a creamy white solid bar form with flecks of oats in it. To me it smells like creamy porride with a nutty undertone. When I applied this to my skin it was creamy and lathered really well. I felt my skin being slightly exfoliated from the oats in it. The oats do fall out of the bar and can be quite messy. It didn't bother me though as I have many other messy products in my shower.

My skin felt soft and smooth after using this bar. I like that it's not sickly sweet. This smell lingers on me. I like to moisturise after having used this. I think its best to try and get this during sale season as they sell them cheap at an affordable price. I wouldn't hesitate to buy more of it. I really enjoyed this mellow scent.
