Really impressed with this shampoo! Firstly, the packaging is simple but cute, it reminds me of those raw juices you can get from the supermarket, and it’s made out of recycled materials! I’m not a huge fan of watermelon but I like this scent, it’s not too overpowering but it’s nice and fresh. The idea of ‘discovering the menu’ is a cool idea too, as all the new range is fruit scented. Now to the actual product! I have really fine hair and this worked nicely for me! It helped my hair feel light and lifted, without leaving any texture as some volumising shampoos do, it didn’t weigh my hair down at all. I also have oily hair and this helped my hair not get as oily throughout the day! I didn’t have to use as much dry shampoo as usual which is amazing. The shampoo lathers heaps so you don’t need to use as much as you think. I always use conditioner when I use shampoo so I can’t say how it performs alone, but my boyfriend used it alone with no conditioner and LOVED it! He also has fine hair and mentioned how his hair felt much more soft and light, and less oily than normal, so it’s men approved too. I love how this shampoo is silicon-free, that’s something that I look for in my hair care. Some silicon-free shampoos can weigh your hair down a bit and it can take your hair a while to get used to it, but this one isn’t like that at all. It’s vegan, cruelty-free and mostly plant-based, with no nasty chemicals. Its absolutely amazing to know that such a huge company like Garnier Fructis is going in this direction. If all big companies did this the world would be a better place!!

Disclaimer: I really don't like watermelon. I have childhood memories of friends happily munching into wedges of the pink fruit, juicy dripping down their chins. Too me, it was too sweet, too watery. No substance. The same is not to be said for Garnier Fructis Volumising Watermelon Hair Food. First of all, I love the packaging, reminiscent of a juice bottle you'd grab out of a cafe fridge, invoking the idea of healthy freshness. A stubby, 350ml recyclable plastic bottle (50% recycled) with a green flip lid, the pink watermelon imaged mirrored by the pink opaque bottle. The label clearly states Garnier commitments, this is a Vegan formula, with no silicones, stating 96% biodegradiable natural origin formula. There are also warnings in regards to do not eat and to keep out of reach of young children. The performance: Getting past the watermelon scent which held citrus floral notes, which to my surprise I found pleasant, the shampoo itself is a clear gel, easy to lather without over foaming. Side note: Since shaving my hair off in 2020 lockdown for fundraising, I took up a No-shampoo then a C0-wash regime for over 12 months, which led to my once-volumous, curly hair being lank and oily-scalped. This is the first time using a bottled shampoo as I did not want to start using silicones due to clogged pores in the past with them. Post washing, as claimed, my hair did not feel weighed down at all. My hair felt clean, and for the first time in over a year, so did my scalp. Hair feels lighter and looks reminiscent of my childhood hair. Or maybe I'm just getting carried away on a watermelon memory. Either way, my lanky days are over, and I'm a convert.
Tips: Keep up high, out of reach of children, because this really does look like a bottle of juice.
I am in LOVE with the smell of this shampoo! Garnier have really hit the mark with this fresh , sweet smelling shampoo which doesn’t smell chemically AND manages to linger in your hair without cloying! Huge points for smell! I cannot believe the packaging - while very cute and in line with the “ Hair Food” design, having the product look like a juice or smoothie is not right in my books. I opened my parcel in the kitchen and my toddler asked for a sip! Fair to say, keep out of reach of small hands ! The shampoo is well formulated and foams easily. I found I didn’t need to use a large amount to feel like I had really cleansed my hair and I appreciate the fact that my hair didn’t feel “ squeaky clean” and stripped after washing as I have found other products to do.
Tips: Keep out of reach of small hands !
The packaging for this product is fairly enticing. Looks like fresh fruit juice. The bottle is a nice shape and size so doesn’t take up too much space in the family bathroom. The cap is easily opened and the smell of the product is just like fresh watermelon but not too sweet or overpowering. Having short hair, I used about a 50c size squeeze of shampoo and found this adequate to achieve a lather. The product claims to have a ‘light foam’ and I would agree with this statement. I found the product rinsed out easily, which is handy with our current limited water supply. I liked the light fragrance that my hair retained once dry. My fine hair combed out well while wet and dried with a bit of extra ‘bounce’. The extra volume was still there the following morning which I was impressed with. I had recently had my fine hair styled at the hairdresser but it only lasted a couple of days before it went back to looking loosely hung and flat. After using this shampoo my hair looked like it had been styled daily by the hairdresser with extra volume and I feel it looked shinier and more healthy. I used this product in conjunction with the Garnier Fructis Watermelon Hair Food used as a conditioner after shampooing or a leave-in product on dry hair the following morning. Both methods achieved great results. My hair looked full and shiny with plenty of volume without using other styling products and felt clean and soft for up to three days after each application. I care about the environment and was pleased to see the product is a vegan formula and 96% biodegradable. Great to see the bottle is made from 50% recycled plastic and is 100% recyclable. I will definitely be using and recommending this product in the future.
Tips: If you have dull, flat or lifeless fine hair, put this product on your shopping list !!!
I received this product on Monday so have only managed to use it twice but I have liked the results, The shampoo is in a nice sized container and it is easy to get the product out of the container. It lathered nicely and washed out easily my hair seemed clean and certainly felt there was no heaviness about it. I did not notice any significance in volume but maybe i have to use it longer .
Tips: My hair is short so I needed only a small amount to create a good lather
First of all thanks BR for selecting me for this trial of the shampoo, conditioner and hair food mask. (See each item for individual reviews). Lets start with the shampoo - this shampoo is fabulous. Packaging awesome very colorful loved shape of shampoo bottle and really compact and easy to handle although flip top lid was a bit hard to open. Love smell of shampoo which lathered really well and only needed small amount, thickish clear gel consistency - i wash my hair twice. Hair was very soft and smooth once dried and did look really good and noticed my highlites were more prominent which was awesome. My hair smelt great too. Greatest thing was it didn't weigh my hair down so its done what it said it would. I trialled this shampoo with the conditioner and the hair food mask. I loved the shampoo so much i bought 2 more bottles on special at Countdown yesterday- there was 1 bottle left so its been popular judging by the other shampoos in the range which were still on shelf. Its also a great price!
Tips: Just buy it and see for yourself!
Thanks BR for chucking me on this trial! I have fine/thin hair that pretty much has nothing to it,its quite limp. Anytime a product exclaims volume I'm always down to trying it out. But my hair also gets oily on top so it's quite a balancing act trying to find the perfect product.
I am loving Garnier lately, this product is a new vegan formula with 96% natural origin, packaging is made with 50% recycled plastic and is 100% recyclable. This product claims: cleanse, volume and no weigh down. Tick tick tick.
I only needed to use a small amount in my palm to get a nice lather up and feel all of the above. My hair felt extremely cleansed, the product felt really lightweight and after my shower and blow drying my hair had a lot of volume. I also really love the scent, it's watermelon scent but I didn't find it overpowering at all and my hair smelt really nice too.
I will definitely keep using this product and reach for it again off the supermarket shelf!
Tips: I have shoulder length hair and a small amount was all that was needed, I feel a bit more might be useful if you have longer hair.
I like the fact that this is a 'green' product with recyclable packaging. The bottle looks cute - reminds me of a smoothie bottle, very pretty. I also love the fact that Garnier is cruelty free. The shampoo does not contain silicone, but unfortunately it does contain sulfates - something I usually steer clear of because I have coloured hair. This shampoo smells like summer. I don't usually like the smell of watermelon very much, so I would not have picked it for the smell but I actually enjoy the fresh smell. The shampoo is lightweight and perfect for fine hair. It doesn't lather much but does a good job of cleaning the hair. I didn't experience any problems such as scalp irritation. It is well priced and if it wasn't for the fact that it contains sulfates, I would have happily bought this again. Yes, I would recommend to a friend with fine hair.
Tips: Try it if you have fine hair but if your hair is colour- or keratin treated, be aware that it contains sulfates.
As expected, the product has a lovely fruity watermelon fragrance. I didn't think it was overpowering, quite subtle really. I love when shampoos are fun colours and with a peachy pink colour, this product definitely hits the mark.
The shampoo came out of the bottle easily, lathered up nicely and rinsed off quickly enough. While I didn't feel like it gave my hair a particularly thorough cleaning, it did a pretty good job and left my hair feeling nice and smooth. I would maybe call it a gentle clean. I also didn't feel like it gave my hair a bigger boost of volume than other shampoos, even though my fine hair is exactly the hair type this shampoo is targeted to.
I thought that the shampoo containing sulfate might be a problem as I have trouble with a dry scalp, but it was great.
Overall, it performed pretty well and I wouldn't be against using it again. But while I do like the shampoo, I don't really think the high price is justified. I didn't feel like it did anything special that I can't get from cheaper products. I would only consider getting it again if it was on sale.
I love the bottle. It has a solid cap and would be good for travelling. Didn't think the lid would open easily which is a win for me. The first thing I did was smell this and I was honestly surprised it didn't appeal like I thought it would. There wasn't the typical watermelon fragrance and I think this is what put me off initially. But once I used this my hair was delicious smelling. The shampoo was easy to get out the bottle and only needed a small amount for my shoulder length hair. Easy to lather and rinse, didn't leave my hair feeling heavy and had a clean feel. Once hair was dried it wasn't flat or dull so very happy since I have fine hair.
