Average except for the smell

I was particularly excited about reviewing this product from the Herb Farm as I know that they are famous for producing natural organic skin care. Upon receiving the Rose Face Cream I was delighted to find that it was a cream that could be used for all types of skin. I also liked the sound of the description in that is softens and protects the skin. My main concern with this product was whether the rose smell would be too over powering for me.

When I first began using the cream I found that it was thicker than my usual face moisturiser, and because of this it felt heavy on my skin. It reminded me a little bit like applying sun block in that it was similar in texture and it took awhile for the face cream to be absorbed into my skin. I also found that my concern for the smell was correct – it was a bit too much for me as it reminds me of my grandmother’s soap or potpourri.

However, as I continued to use the face cream I did find that my skin was softer and it felt moisturised for longer. I’m not entirely sure about whether my skin was more protected (there was no extra information on the packaging about this) and so I googled the benefits of using rose products on skin. I discovered that rose water (an ingredient of the face cream) helps reduce sun damage – so this face cream may come in handy if you get sun burnt in summer!

Overall, I was pleased with this product. The face cream didn’t irritate my skin at all, and after a couple of uses, my skin felt softer and moisturised. However, I still think the smell of the product is a little overpowering for my taste and so I probably wouldn’t buy it in the future. I would recommend this product for all those who love natural and organic products...and my grandmother who loves the smell of roses.

Tips: Less is more – especially if you’re not fussed with the rose smell! You only need a small amount of this face cream in order to moisturise your entire face. This means that not only does the face cream last longer but it is also cost effective.

Great review AnnekeB. I love the info about the rosewater, that's a good tip for the summer.

Inexpensive luxury

As someone who has dry/combination skin, this has been a really lovely product to try out. My main concerns when it comes to moisturiser is that it is rich enough to prevent dryness and flakiness, but light enough to sink in quickly and sit well/not interfere with any makeup I wear that day.

I find that this moisturiser ticks all the above boxes. It’s a fairly thick, white cream, but a little goes a long way (I use about a 20 cent size amount) and it blends out somewhat like a lotion. It does take a couple of minutes to absorb and sink in properly, but once it has done that it doesn’t leave any kind of tacky residue like some richer creams are prone to do. It doesn’t interfere with the appearance or wear time of my makeup, and in fact I feel like my t-zone hasn’t been getting shiny as quickly as it sometimes does.

As the name would suggest, it has a rose fragrance. I personally like it, as it reminds me very much of plain rosewater, which is something I love. Once I’ve rubbed it in I can sometimes detect a faint herbally scent also which isn’t as pleasant, but it’s not strong enough to bother me, and it fades very quickly.

I love the look of the packaging, from the brown glass jar to the font. It is a jar rather than a squeezy tube or pump bottle, which does have its cons, but I don’t mind it, and it does look very cute sitting on my dresser.

In terms of its claims, I do think that it makes my skin soft and protected. However, I haven’t noticed any improvement in skin-tone in the couple of weeks that I’ve had to trial it, so I can’t say for certain whether that claim is true (hence the slightly lowered rating).

For the price, this is a really luxurious moisturiser that I would be more than happy to repurchase. Definitely worth checking out if you have slightly dryer skin!

Tips: Apply a couple of minutes before putting on makeup, so that it has time to sink in and sit well underneath.

perfection in a pot

Absolutely love this cream, I have been looking for a good face cream for a long time and I've found it :) makes my skin feel hydrated and isn't over greasy, smells great too. Will definitely be purchasing this again when this pot runs out

Tips: Only need a small amount as it goes along way

Absolutly Amazing Face Cream

I was so excited to try out this face cream, as most of the other face creams I tried didn't work well with my sensitive skin. Most face creams I have tried have been either too thick or too thin consistency wise, made my skin dry or like an oil slick and had a bad reaction with my sensitive skin. I was interested to see how this face cream by The Herb Farm worked.

Scent: When I first got this I thought the smell would be totally over powering due to it being a rose scent. But the scent is actually not too bad, its quite nice. Its not like one of those scents that get stuck up your nose and smell all day, Its quite a nice scent - not to harsh or strong.

Consistency: At first I thought this is way too thick! But the consistency is perfect. It doesn't have a lotion finish, it feels like the end result turns into a balm finish. And a little goes a very long way with this product. I like how it feels like a balm, not a cream/lotion.

Reaction: I thought that because of the rose scent that my skin would have a reaction to it. Surprisingly enough no bad reaction or any redness to my skin at all.

Overall I have seen my skin tone improve and my skin is very hydrated now. I love this product. It is now a must in my daily skincare routine.

I understand that this may not be everyone's cup of tea so to speak due to the rose scent, but I do recommend trying this face cream.

Tips: A little goes a very long way.

I wanted to love this

Luckily I only purchased the 30ml size of this product and not the full size as I had a terrible reaction to this product. I purchased it from Commonsense Organics for around $16 or $17 from what I can remember. The product comes in an old fashioned apothecary style jar - tinted brown glass to prevent light damage to the cream inside. The cream inside is a gorgeous milky pale pink colour which is brimming with the aroma of real roses. I have a problem with rose scented things - cold creams, old fashioned lotions, hand creams, you name it I love the nostalgic feminine scent of rose scented products so I had to give this a try. Unfortunately I am prone to being quite allergic to these natural types of products and unfortunately this one caused the same reaction as usual - Hives all over my face and neck the morning after I had applied the cream the evening before. Fortunately my friend loves this so it did not go to waste. Overall a gorgeous rich moisturising cream which is lightweight yet very emollient at the same time. I would suggest staying away from this if you have ultra sensitive skin (are often allergic to essential oils) or if you have oily skin. If you have normal/dry skin and you love old fashioned rose scented products and natural skincare then you may well love this cream.

Tips: A little goes a long way. May not be ideal for overly sensitive skin or oily skin.

Smell the roses

Thank you for the Herb Farm Rose Face Cream which definitely makes your skin feel very soft. I know I would be the target market for a cream such as this, being a Nana, but it did seem to be a bit old fashioned and being a cream was a bit too heavy for me. I use a face brightening serum and Magic Blur cream under makeup and more often than not Garnier BB cream which makes the Rose Cream superfluous. I did try it as a night cream but it felt as if it would block pores. I will use it on my throat and neck and it is beautiful on the backs of my hands and even healing on a dry patch of skin.

Tips: For night, use very sparingly.

come up smelling of roses

Thank you for the opportunity to review this product. This light and non-greasy face cream is a delight. The smell of rose fragrance is wonderful. This very resonably priced cream is a must have. I would definitely purchase this product and was delighted to have included a brochure for other products by The Herb Farm so I will be placing an order for other products

Tips: Use morning and night, just heavenly

Great for sensitive skin

This face cream has a lovely gel like consistency due to it containing aloe vera as a main ingredient. The rose fragrance and the fact that it melts into the skin rather than sitting atop of if makes it a joy to use as a night cream. I was sent this product as a BR product review and since I've started using it I've noticed that my skin has become more supple and hydrated. Definitely would use again!

I would rate this product 5/5 if it was packaged with a pump rather than a jar.

The herb Farm, Rose Face Cream

So this product was a BR trial, that I was fortunate enough to be apart of.

The packaging is simple but elegant a 60ml or 30ml brown glass jar with black lid.

The consistency of the face cream is reasonably thick, but glides on very easily and does not make or leave the skin feeling oily.

You only need a small amount ( roughly a 10 cent piece )

My skin feels very smooth and rejuvenated from the rose face cream ( as smooth as a babies bum) :)

The Rose scent upon opening the jar is very strong but disappears shortly after application.

I have used the rose face cream on a day with make up and with out. On the day I had no make up my skin felt moisturized all day without greasiness. On the day where I applied my make up I waited about 30 seconds after moisturizing, I found that my makeup applied a lot smoother and even.

This product is made with care in NZ

I had no trouble with stinging or reaction.

I personally will recommend this product to family and friends to buy, I hope that this review is helpful and you get the opportunity to try this amazing product :)

Tips: Wait for approx. 30 secs after moisturizing before you apply your make up !!!

Smooth and nourishing

The skin on my face can be a bit temperamental so I wasn’t expecting to love this moisturiser too easily. I find I need a thick and creamy moisturiser that can really let my skin drink up some moisture but a lot of thicker, creamier moisturisers will also leave my skin oily and greasy.

The rose face cream is a lovely soft cream packed with moisture. I love that it feels thick and nourishing going on but isn’t heavy at all. Even with a generous layer it soaks right into my skin and doesn’t leave a greasy residue. I have also found it provides a good base under my foundation.

I really love the feel of this face cream. It has a good balance between a light and fluffy texture and a thick, nourishing formula which is great for me as I love the feel of lightweight moisturisers but my skin needs a bit more than they tend to offer.

The only thing I’m not 100% sure on is the scent. If you’re a fan of rose, then go for it. I tend to go for unscented or very delicate scents with my skincare so while this scent is certainly pleasant and not at all overwhelming I’m just not sure I want that much scent in a face cream.

All in all it is an excellent product from a lovely Kiwi company with a great philosophy towards producing natural products. I am very impressed with this product and will certainly be looking to check out more of the range, especially given how reasonable the prices are for a natural range.

Tips: Don't be scared off by the thickness - this cream does a great job of absorbing into the skin leaving it silky soft if you just give it a moment. Rub any excess (or go back for more) into your hands to share the love around and give your hands a treat too.
