I purchased Doll Parts in the limited edition Christmas packaging from Beautylish.
The lipstick comes in a clear round tube with Jeffree's logo printed on it. The tube is good as you can see the colour inside, and also how much product is remaining.
The Doll Parts shade doesn't have any discernible scent, but some of the other shades (particularly the summer shades) have special scents added to them.
The formula is quite thin which helps when applying it with the doe-foot applicator. A little goes a long way!
It has really good staying power but does tend to come off from the centre of my mouth a lot faster than the outside edges of my lips. It's not too drying but I do find that after a few hours it gets a bit crumbly.
My main issue with this lipstick is that the colour on the websites (Jeffree's site as well as Beautylish) show it as being a lot lighter and more doll-pink than the one I received. I've also checked swatches on instagram and mine still seems to be a bit darker and more mauve than it should. I still like the colour and get a lot of compliments when I wear it, but because of this inconsistency I've not bought any more shades from the range.
I have two of these liquid lipsticks. Masochist and Hoe Hoe Hoe which was part of the Christmas 2015 limited edition and then got renamed Rich Blood and made part of the permanent collection. I really love both colors.
Masochist - Is a bright berry red but like a very dark fuschia shade. It's a pinky red shade. This one is completely matte.
Rich Blood - Not a bright red but not a burgundy. It's sort of blue based and has a slightly cool undertone. While most of J Star's liquid lipsticks are matte this one has a slight purple shimmer to it. It's like a good sultry, Christmas red but I think almost any skin shade can pull this color off. I do find the consistency of this liquid slightly more wet than the other one and this shade seems to transfer and bleed a bit more than the other shade.
The think I love about these liquid lipsticks is that it goes very opaque the color stays for a long time on your lips, plus the shades are gorgeous. I find this brand a little less drying than another brand of liquid lipstick however, it does feel a bit more tacky in texture on once applied. I find I have a lot of color still on my lips like four hours easily without fading. However, if I do the kiss test on my hand or someone or drink water there is transfer. I find that a bit annoying especially since it says kisses are okay when you look up each shade on the site. Despite that I find I still have a lot of color still on my lips despite transfer. If I eat even food with no oil the lipstick will wear off in the middle, but considering I ate I still have a lot color on my lips. Another downside with this liquid lipstick is once I start eating I find it bleeds and transfers all around my mouth. To be honest I never really had a problem with lipstick bleeding with any other brand. I don't own any of the light shades in J Star's range so I don't know if it's just the dark shades that do this. I really do want Androgyny and Gemini at some point so I guess I'll find out if it's just the reds and darker shades or if the more neutral tones have the problem as well. I do like that it is long lasting and that it's cruelty free and vegan, but I don't feel I can give it five stars considering the price and promises plus the fact that it bleeds.
Tips: Before you do your makeup exfoliate your lips and use a lip balm to prep it. Then wipe off the lip balm before you apply. If you tend to make mistakes when it comes to applying liquid lipstick like me then have a Q-tip with a gel based liquid lipstick remover to erase any mistakes. A white/clear lipliner does help to reduce the chance bleeding around your mouth. If you think this might be transfer proof on you, kiss the back of your hand and test before you kiss someone who might share your appreciation to wear that shade of lipstick where you want to smooch them since this is a longer lasting lipstick.
