I always wear sunscreen. I hate the sun and it’s such an ingrained part of my makeup routine that I’ve occasionally found myself putting it on under my night out makeup just out of habit! I’m very pale and also take medication that makes me even more prone to burning. As a heliophobe who always wears a lot of makeup, I’m pretty fussy about what sunscreen I put on my face.
The consistency of the product is thinner than what I’m used to so I was a little suspicious at first of how effective it would be. It took a bit of getting used to in terms of not dripping it everywhere at first, but I’ve got the knack with it now. The upside to this thin texture is that it sits on the face really nicely, doesn’t feel greasy and doesn’t affect my foundation at all once I’ve applied it over the top.
There is no fragrance to speak of, so that’s a bonus if you’re not a fan of that traditional sunscreen scent.
I really liked the packaging on this one. It’s a handy handbag size for reapplication and the screw on cap feels secure. There’s nothing like the sunscreen leak apocalypse in your bag! I like the idea of a smaller bottle too as I’m always paranoid about keeping the same bottle for too long in case it goes off.
As a rule I try and avoid the sun as much as I can in the first place and sunscreen is just a back up for all those times you get caught moving between shaded areas. With that in mind, I haven’t exactly put this on and gone out to lie in the sun to test its effectiveness. I have been wearing it around my normal day to day activities though. My makeup has still stayed on and I haven’t had any burns or reactions. It survived an afternoon walk with the dog that definitely would have left me red without it.
I really liked this one. I’ve been repurchasing the same sunscreen for years but I could be tempted to make the switch next time I need to repurchase. Cost wise it’s a little more than my usual one but I would be willing to buy it again. Admittedly skincare is something I’m happy to spend a bit more on if I like something.
The La Roche-Posay sunscreen is a nice light lotion for skin. It doesn't leave white marks and offers a 50+ sun protection rating, which I need in summer. It's not greasy and I can layer it under my makeup. It's suitable for my sensitive skin, which is great! I'm not fond of the bottle it is in. I find that it is deceptively small. Also, I read the ingredients and from what research I've done on sunscreen, I'm not a big fan of the ingredients they use for sun protection. This is purely a personal preference thing however. I do like it, and it does what it says it does.
Tips: I read somewhere once that you need to let sunscreen sit 8 minutes or so before applying makeup on top. This won't disrupt the protection it offers.
