I have short, straight lashes, and using a waterproof mascara is the only way they will hold a curl from my eyelash curlers. An effective eye makeup remover is a must! The most effective ones I've tried have all had a bi-phase formula -- the "oily" part floating on top of the watery. You shake the bottle to mix the two up and use a cotton pad to remove.
The formula of Neutrogena's remover is really effective, although I find it leaves an oily residue -- much more so than its Clarins or Lancome counterparts. Not ideal if you plan on keeping your contacts in afterwards! However, at $15 for 112mls (Clarins is $46 for 125ml; Lancome is $66 for 125ml), that's a minor quibble.
The bottle design is simple and no-nonsense; my one complaint is that the opening is quite wide. It really needs a smaller opening to avoid wastage.
I also don't like that this contains benzalkonium chloride. They've obviously used it at a low enough concentration for it to not be toxic to humans, but it is toxic to marine life. I've started using plain oils to remove eye makeup, but will keep this around as a back up.
I've tried many many make up removers in the past, varying from oily products to stubborn make up wipes... This is the only one i've found that doesn't irritate sensitive skin, is oil free, and does the job it's suppose to! Within a few wipes, all black smudges are gone. It's especially good for putting on q-tips and erasing minor mistakes with fine liquid eyeliner, as it doesn't smudge at all! I religiously buy this product and recommend it to all of my friends.
