The colour of this lipstick (lippy, I suppose, seeing as it's not actually a stick) is brilliant. I'm crazy about it. It's vibrant and it has a blue shimmer and it's really that stand-out vivid purple you've always wanted. It's fairly well pigmented and it stains your lips so it wears quite well. The packaging, like all things Lush, is beautiful - and almost entirely recyclable. It's also, being Lush, totally eco- and animal-friendly, generally ethically produced, all that good stuff that Lush stands for and I love.
Unfortunately, there are some downsides: while being well pigmented, I found the formula quite streaky. This persisted until I had built it up to about three coats (more in some areas of my lips). The formula starts off glossy but dries to be quite chalky, and at this point definitely does not feel hydrating. This could possibly be solved by using lipbalm on a cotton tip over the top of the dried shade, however. I am also really not a fan of the application method: a doe's foot. If that's your thing, great - but it isn't mine, and I found application unnecessarily fiddly.
Overall - a great colour that I am happy to wear when I have a little extra time for fiddling about with the applicator, but I probably wouldn't go out of my way to buy Lush lippy when I can find colour dupes in conventional lipstick form.
In my ever eternal quest to find my perfect purple lippy I was undeniably drawn to try this one out for myself. So online shopping being my preference with living over an hour away from my nearest Lush store I was armed only with the image of a beautiful shade of purple and the hopes that it would stay purple on my lips.
After it arrived the first thing I did was of course try it on. Next I noticed was how cute the wee vial was and how the top looked like a dropper but it's hard plastic not squeezable. The applicator wand has a soft doe-foot type tip. The lippy applied like a liquid lip product would, smooth and not too runny, it covered well and felt like butter on my skin... that is where the positives end for me.
The taste was a bit too much for me, it did get less noticeable the more I applied it but still not my first pick for a lip product... very earthy and natural/herbal. The colour immediately turn pink on my lips not at all purple looking but like the Beauty Review logo shade of pink which I do seem to have problems with any pink based lippy doing this (even MAC)... So I think the problem is with my lips.
It wears nicely but doesn't stay put and it sits in the lip creases if not taken off properly. It doesn't bleed away from the lips and it has a nice satin finish to it so not highly glossy but not a matte finish by any means.
