Although this product is very cheap, the quality is poor. The shadow is very chalky and not very pigmented. May be good for those who are beginners with makeup, however I would not recommend purchasing this elf product. this was a disappointment as I love most elf products.

This product is one of the cheaper eyeshadow quads,I brought mine 5 dollars from kmart and the first time I used it I was disappointed with the poor quality of the product. The eyeshadow isnt pigmented and it just looks shimmery and shiny,it was horrible to try and blend . I guess that for the price of the product it wasnt absolutely horrible.
Tips: If you are going to use the product dont use the applicator it doesn't pick up the eyeshadow easily.
I was quite disappointed in this quad, because most other e.l.f products are really good. I purchased this from K-mart for $5, and have tried applying it with both the sponge applicator and an eyeshadow brush. Neither seem to get the colour to stay, and the two lighter shades are barely pigmented at all. Almost no colour shows up when either are applied, just a bit of shimmer. The third colour along is pigmented and quite dark, but incredibly hard to blend out nicely. The fourth colour wasn't very pigmented either. Overall I found this quad to be disappointing as eye shadows are so hard to apply, but I haven't tried it with a shadow primer, so this may make a difference. Without a primer, I wouldn't recommend it.
ELF is one of my all time favourite brands and I have a lot of their products. The quad Butternut was given to me by a friend who was purging her collection, and she knows I like ELF and neutrals so she gifted this to me.
The packaging for this quad is very generic and kind of boring. It feels cheap (which it is), and I would advise about being careful with this as the plastic feels like it is easy to break. I like that the lid is clear so you can see the shades. This comes with a sponge applicator which I personally loathe but am sure others find useful.
Them shades in butternut are very pretty and are perfect for a soft, romantic look. I can imagine that this quad would be absolutely ideal for those who aren't into bold looks, teenagers or inexperienced makeup users. The shades in this quad are quite forgiving as there aren't any deep colours.
The pigmentation is ok. To be realistic, it is unfair of me to compare this to more expensive eyeshadows just because this is a very inexpensive product. I think for the price it is excellent quality, but if I compare it to more expensive shadows (like Lorac or Too Faced), then this doesn't score very highly.
The shadows are a little powdery but feel soft and blend without too much trouble. You aren't going to get amazing pigmentation out of these unless you wet them. However, for those who want a natural look then this is ideal.
Because I am an eyeshadow snob and want great pigmentation out of my shadows, I wouldn't buy this for myself. I can definitely see myself purchasing or recommending these for a friend who is new to makeup or who wants to experiment with makeup but doesn't want to pay a lot of money for something they may not like. These quads are so inexpensive that I think they are absolutely perfect for experimenting with shades that scare you, before you commit to an expensive eyeshadow.
I got the e.l.f. eyeshadow quad from a friend who knew I was rather enthusiastic about eye shadows.
The colours in the quad were quite neutral and while I could use the quad to create an eye look, I prefer to use the whole quad as base colours and crease blending shades.
The shadows are soft powdery and soft. They are not that pigmented and aren't that great to build up. As such a subtle shadow, they also fade away fairly quickly.
As I was needing some more neutral shadows I find the eyeshadows very useful, but I would buy a more pigmented quad to replace it.
For people who like subtle make up or often feel their make up looks heavy handed, this is a great quad to experiment with.
At first I was a bit skeptical because the look pretty cheap and basic, the reason why I purchased was because it was only $2.00 and all the other elf products I had tried were great. As soon as I opened it, it broke :( not very pigmented & doesn't last very long. Would be great for play make up.
