I have previously tried a BB cream by Maybelline, but I didn't like it at all and so that put me off BB cream altogether. When I heard about this Garnier Miracle Skin Perfector BB Cream and how it had different types in the range for different skin types, I decided to reconsider, and luckily enough, I was selected as part of the trial team for the Oil-free SPF 15 type.
I have oily/combination skin, so my face can get rather oily in some areas whereas other areas can be quite dry. I have the most problems with my T-zone where it gets oily the most. During the day, I have to blot my T-zone to get rid of excess oil, otherwise those areas look super shiny (not a good look!). I usually powder on top of my foundation to try and matte out my oily areas, but it doesn't last very long during the day.
I like how this BB Cream does leave a soft matte finish, so it kind of eliminates the shiny oily look on my face. The consistency of the BB Cream is quite watery and light, which I like but also don't like at the same time - it's good that it's not thick because it means it won't weigh down on my face and block my pores, but that also means that it doesn't give complete coverage. On the other hand, I prefer to use this on days where I can't be bothered putting on foundation, so this BB Cream gives the right light coverage for a really natural look. Because it is quite runny, I have accidentally squeezed out more than I needed from the tube, which I didn't like because it ends up in product wastage. However, the product is easy to blend out when you apply it. The packaging is probably the most easiest for a product like that though, as a jar container would probably push up the cost as well as making it harder to keep something with a runny consistency in. I find that the product lasts a few hours before I still find my face going shiny and oily again. Removing the product is also easy as it is so light on the skin.
I didn't like how they only had two colour options for this BB Cream, as some people may not fall specifically into one of the two categories, so this made it hard for me to decide what colour to get at first. I chose the 'Light' colour and I think it was actually the right choice!
I would love to find out whether this BB Cream does help in reducing pore size, imperfections, and making my skin less oily, as the product also says that it improves the skin's quality over time after about 4 weeks. I am yet to still find out though as I've only been using it for about a week. From what I've used so far, I definitely prefer it over the Maybelline BB Cream!
I actually typed up and posted this review on Saturday, but it doesn't seem to have gone through, so I will try again, hopefully I can remember it all!
I was very keen to try this BB cream as I absolutely loath the original one, so when BR offered it up, I jumped at the chance.
The first thing I noticed about this BB cream is its consistency, it is very, very runny (similar to my Bourjois CC cream). You need to be careful when using it as it will leak all over your counter top. It has a pleasant fragrance, hard to describe it really, but not overpowering.
It promises to give a full matte coverage, but I would say it is a medium matte coverage. Still pretty good for a BB cream. I used x1 pea sized amount for medium coverage, and built it up to full coverage with x1 pea sized amounts if required. The consistency meant it was really easy to apply and it blended out nicely with no patches. I just apply it with my hands like I would my moisturiser.
It also claims to hide imperfections, which it did to to a certain extent, but I still needed a concealer for any stubborn spots, and for under my eyes. As far as its claim to "reduce pores" I think that is near on impossible, your pores are your pores you can't do much to change them, but the product does gloss over them temporarily while you're wearing it.
I did find that after using this for a week that I actually broke out, so will stop using it for a while and see if my face clears up. I also found that it stung my eyes right after I applied it, which is unusual for me, beauty products don't usually affect my eyes at all. It is a shame I've broken out as I wouid like to test it for the full 4 weeks to see if it lives up to its other claims of less oily skin and more radiance.
The product has pretty good staying power, which was increased by the use of a primer. It kept up its matte finish for most of the day, which is impressive as my face is usually a bit of an oil slick by 5pm!
All in all, this products is a pretty good BB cream, and for me it is miles ahead of the original Garnier BB cream. I would recommend it to my friends who might be looking for a cheap alternative to some high end brands, but I think there are also better products on the market in the same price bracket.
Tips: Lay a tissue over your counter top when you're applying the cream, as it has a tendency to leak while the lid is off.
