This Opium is like a drug! Get sexy with it

After hearing a bit of buzz about samples of this being given away, I asked a friend if I could try their sample. It was sent to me as they didn't like it.

One squirt and I was sold! It was totally unlike anything I have ever tried before. It smelt sexy, romantic yet very adult.

I took the leap of faith and brought the 100ml size. Again another BR friend was so kind to get it for me and send to me as I'm rural. Getting to shopping centres is tricky for me at the moment.

The box it came in oozed glamour! The bottle is a statement. Think of that romantic night you go out in your sexy black dress, with your loved one beside you in a tux kind of glamour! The lid is like his top hat. The circle is clear and you can see the magical liquid inside. Just a peek as to not give away the secret. The bottle is heavy and needs to be shown off.

When you press to release the delicious fragrance it's like being wrapped in a warm embrace. I can smell coffee and vanilla. It makes me want to hug my husband and press my nose into his neck as I can smell the warm fragrance encircle the both of us.

To me it's a romantic night out treat. Once we are all dressed up and going out, the looks I swap with my husband, the YSL Opium warming up the evening, is the final touch of romance.

Dessert is chocolate as this is a sweet smell. Vanilla, coffee, chocolate and my husband is a perfect combo.

Don't get me wrong, I love to wear this on many occasions. To me this one would be the number one use. It lasts me all day. I sprits it all over my clothing and not my skin. Perfumes cause irritations and can't be worn on my skin. You only need a max of 4 sprays for the full on strong effect.

Highly recommend it

Perfection in a Bottle

I’ll begin by saying, I never expected to like this perfume. When I heard about its release, I didn’t even flutter an eyelid. I was basing my excitement on the previous versions of Opiums.. the one my mum uses and a smell I myself don’t enjoy. But when I heard about a free sample of this at farmers I had to get my hands on it! What can I say, I love free stuff.

The sample was tiny, but enough to wear the scent for a few days and get the feeling of how it smelt on my skin. Let me just say after the first spray, I was hooked.

I love everything about this perfume. They packaging I think is aimed at a younger audience, being pinky metallic gold, and black! The box is very elegant, and is the first perfume box I haven’t thrown out immediately after buying a perfume, and it has the YSL logo in a raised glittery text. The bottle itself reflects the box, being black, and textured with a glittery appearance. I thought this looked so fun, and girly-I’m a girl who thinks a girl can never have too much sparkles. It has a clear circle in the middle of the bottle which lets you see the pink perfection inside and so far.. even after daily use, I still can’t see the perfume level dropping! I brought the 30 ml from Farmers which retails for $113.

Now to the smell I fell in love with. When I first spray this, I get a hint of coffee. It’s not overpowering, it does not smell like you tipped coffee on yourself. It just a beautiful hint of coffee that last moments before I smell the sweetness of vanilla coming through. I find the mixes of these two notes are really pleasant because it takes away the sweetness from the vanilla, and doesn’t leave the sickly vanilla smell that some perfumes have. I would describe this scent as feminine, and it almost has delicateness about it. I use a couple of sprays In the morning, and I just love the smell. Honestly if I could afford to I would probably fill my bathtub up with this stuff and just douse myself in it! The thing is, I cant actually smell this on myself after an hour, because I think im used to the smell now so I occasionally do a spray throughout the day just to top up the smell.

I can’t recommend this perfume because everyone has different perfumes tastes, and perfumes smell differently to everyone! However, I can’t describe in words how much I love this perfume and if you have similar tastes to me in perfumes (flower bomb and dolce and gabbana being other favourites of mine), then I do think you should try this!!

Tips: If your interesting in trying this, ask for a sample at farmers. Not sure if they still have any but worth a try

Spicy

I received a sample of the Black Opium from Farmers a while ago and was sufficiently impressed to return and purchase a bottle - size was 30 ml and retail price was $113.00. The box is black and gold and embossed with the YS which is slightly 'glitterised' and impressive. The bottle is extremely elegant and impressive. I am not a fan of Opium but discovered that this was a completely different fragrance and not as heady or spicy as the original. It was a warm floral undertone, and a sweet, light spicy undertone. I don't think it is light enough for me to wear during the day and would be inclined to wear it in the evenings. Very sexy fragrance!

Tips: Spray a little on the bedside light bulb and when the lights go on it permeates the room.

Opium for the modern nose

I received a sample of this at Myers in Australia. Personally I cannot find any resemblance to the original Opium in this fragrance whatsoever. To me this scent smells like a love child of Black XS, Flower Bomb and Jovan Black musk. A fruity-patchouli. I was worried when I saw coffee mentioned as a note as personally I don't want to smell like a beverage but I didn't notice it. I did get some berry notes, leather/suede, burnt sugar and patchouli but nothing wowed me about this. The bottle on display was also covered in glitter which personally I found quite tacky. I would have expected that this may have had a more oriental base hence it's association with the original but like the Belle variant which was released a couple of years ago this is a completely different scent geared towards a modern audience. Too overwhelmingly sweet and burnt sugar smelling for my nose. If you delve in expecting a scent like the original opium you are bound to be disappointed.
