I've been looking for a bright violet or purple coloured mascara for a while now and so far I've been disappointed. Not many brands stock purple mascara, yet all of them seem to do blue! I saw Almay Intense i-colour Volumising Mascara in 4 different shades and thought I'd give their Black Plum (#031) a try.
I thought I'd be taking a bit of risk, seeing as the name of the colour is black plum and there was no tester available for me to see the actual colour of the mascara before purchasing it. I got home to open the sealed outer packaging, only to find that the mascara on the wand looked almost brown! When swatched on the back of my hand, it appears to be a dark, almost black coloured mascara with a hint of purple and quite a bit of silver shimmer!
The mascara wand is full with long bristles, which makes it a little awkward to apply the mascara to the inner corners of my eyes without accidentally sticking one of the wands bristles into my eye, especially then placing this "lash enhancing brush" at the base of my lashes to wiggle the wand through the roots.
After the mascara has been applied to my lashes, it dries to a dark charcoal colour or a very soft black and doesn't really appear purple or plum. It's disappointing, although its to be expected as a black plum is a really dark colour and isn't a vibrant purple like I've had in mind or have been looking for.
I'm not giving up on my hunt for a bright purple mascara and will be trying out a few more brands in future. If you have brown eyes and are wanting to give them a subtle pop of colour to enhance their natural brown tones, do try Almay Intense i-colour Volumising Mascara. As the colour is not too bright, it will still enhance your eyes while being subtle enough to wear on a daily basis.
One thing that Almay did get right is their formula. This mascara doesn't budge! There's no smudging, flaking or clumping!
Almay Intense i-colour Volumising Mascara is available in four colours: Black Plum for brown eyes, Sapphire for blue eyes, Midnight for hazel eyes and Mocha for green eyes.
Tips: Don't be scared to try a coloured mascara or to try one that is "not" for your eye colour. I have blue eyes and like the soft, subtle pop of Black Plum as an alternative to black mascara.
