I'm a daily user of Rosehip oil. This Alpine Silk is very much like every other Rosehip oil I've used, which is good. It has a good viscosity- seems slightly thinner than other brands, perhaps due to the other oils in the mix. It rubbed into my face easily, as expected. The method of getting it out of the bottle is via a built-in good quality glass dropper. Some brands use a dripper, which is not good, so the dropper is better but not best. My current preferred method is via plastic pump, which dispenses the right amount while keeping the top sealed. I find that with containers with droppers tend to gunk up around the edge of the bottle after a while. Lastly, the smell. Yes, some people don't like the smell of Rosehip oil. This stuff doesn't smell as strong as most others, so it's the lesser of some evils. I was actually expecting it to smell of rose, given that the packaging is all pretty roses, and the mask smelled of rose. If manufacturers of rosehip oil wish to attract more customers, they should use a tiny amount of herbal, citrus or floral essence to mask what some find unpleasant. It doesn't take away from the rosehip being pure and would avoid the polarising views.
So anyway, if you like Rosehip, this is as good as any. I say Go for it!
FULL DISCLOSURE: I've used many rosehip oil products in the past - most notably the Trilogy version - and have never loved any of them. So in all fairness, I was skeptical about this new addition to the rosehip oil bandwagon from the get go.
Nevertheless, I have been using it all week. I really wanted to like it, so I could give a positive review to an NZ brand. But. It just. I can't.
The smell is is like stale crayons. Sure, skincare shouldn't have added fragrance in the first place, but surely there is someway to purify the smell of this oil.
Secondly, the texture is a bit gritty. It's not rough on my face, but there is definitely *something* in it that makes it less than a pure oil.
I have been applying the oil at night after my hyaluronic acid moisturiser. I rub and rub and then wipe the excess off my hands and then rub some more. But it simply won't absorb into my skin. I figured that is just how it is meant to work. But in the morning, I can tell that there is more product left on my pillowcase than my face.
I'm so sorry, Alpine Silk, but I didn't get a luxurious experience from this at all.
