Christian Dior Diorissimo Review

Diorissimo is a romantic fragrance of the 50’s. At its heart, a gentle lily of the valley, blooms as Dior’s favorite “fortune” flower. Diorissimo is fresh and clear, just like a dewy, spring morning in the woods. Top notes include lily-of-the- valley and ylang-ylang, the heart is composed of amaryllis and boronia, leaving a jasmine trail. Christian Dior believed that lily-of-the valley is the symbol of hope, happiness and joy. French consider lily of the valley as the legendary flower. According to the legend a brave and fearless fighter, called Saint Leonard wanted, to spend his days among the flowers and trees and live a life dedicated to God. He asked permission to go live in the woods. A dragon called Temptetaion lived in those woods. They fought and blood was spilled. Leonard bravely fought the dragon until it was defeated. Poisonous weeds began to grow where the dragon spilled his blood, but beds of lilies of the valley started to grom wherever the ground was moistened with Saint Leonard's. The French believe that lily-of-the valley is a holy flower and so did Christian Dior whichinspired the creation of this wonderful fragrance.

Diorissimo - one of my favs

I got this as part of a set that I purchased on Trade Me and found myself unusually drawn to this. The bottle design is sophisticated and elegant. When I first sprayed this in the air I thought "Oh no, a grandma perfume" but I decided to actually wear it to see how it really performs as a perfume and I really love the lily of the valley and lilac smell. For me it's a fragrance rich with florals that sends me off into a dream where I'm skipping in a spring garden full of flowers in bloom. I found this to be a fragrance that lasts all day, I think that my bottle may be from the earlier recipe as it was part of a set with Tendre Poison in it and that's been discontinued for quite some time. Anyway, back to Diorissimo, this is a very feminine, very floral perfume that emits spring time that goes great with a flowing spring dress that swirls when you twirl.

Tips: A big must have for floral lovers.

Love this

i have loved this perfume for a long time now but it is getting harder to find in store. it is also quite pricey but it is Christian Dior after all. i wear this as a daily perfume knowing that is not overpowering to others and has good lasting qualities plus the smell is divine. This perfume can take you from day to evening with no worries at all. Love love love it!!

A classic

Reviewing a 1980s 25g pure parfum with a silver cap.

This was a fragrance my mother wore when she was the same age as me that could have been a part of my childhood, had my mother not stopped wearing perfumes after I was born. I've inherited it now and while it is a favourite of mine, because I have so many others and also the fact that this is the most precious fragrance I own, I cannot bear to use it on a day to day basis. However on days I need something to cheer me up, I'll happily reach for this!

There is a crisp green quality in this fragrance that many other lily of the valley fragrances share though this has a slightly warm tone in comparison to say, Crabtree and Evelyn's Lily. Like other similar fragrances it is most suited for spring and early summer. It is slightly long lasting with a medium amount of sillage.

I'll have to dispute Lefemmenikita's description of the bottles but for larger versions she is dead correct. Older smaller versions come in varied packaging such as cylinders or amphora and if by chance if there is a paper label then it is most likely from around the year it was released.

Would I recommend this? Definitely! Test it out and have a think about it! Slightly old fashioned, yes, but still a very beautiful fragrance. It's quite pricey but oh so worth it.

Tips: Ideal for spring days.

Romantic fragrance

I believe the bottle I have (and the one which I am reviewing) is pre-reformulations that occurred in 2009.

Diorissimo's dominant note is lily of the valley. It goes without saying you have to be a fan of this note in order to like the perfume.

The perfume is a very 'clean' type of scent in the sense it does not have an overbearing or heavy 'perfume' like quality. Instead, it's a very focused on the one note.

It is ideal for daytime wear and relatively warm weather (spring, though not hot summer days so much)

The lasting power is pretty decent and the silliage is ok.

All formulations of the perfume are housed in a similar square shaped bottle. The key difference is the labels, both in terms of what is written on them and their placement (whether they are printed directly on the bottle or a paper label.)

Tips: You will like this if you like Yardley's Lily of the Valley which smells similar
