I was glad to be chosen for this trial team as I love Clairol and have been using their products for many years.
This root touch up promised to cover greys and to blend with most leading brands including salon ranges, which sounded great! The box is the typical white and blue of Clairol box colours but has been updated since I last used it and it’s pretty nice. I received the 9A matched light ash blonde shades.
The bottles are tiny! I assume it’s supposed to be just enough for one root touch up, but really was a teeny and I don’t really think it was enough to do a good root coverage as I was covering the middle roots but also under the fringe area and behind the ears. I do think the bottles need to be a wee bit bigger with a bit more product.
So the product was easy to mix in the wee tray supplied which was really cute in an oval shape but nice and deep. It can with the usual gloves which are a little better than they used to be, or when I last used some anyway. I did like the brush and I’ll keep it for the next touch up or colour i use as it’s quite ergonomic and easy to use. The instructions are easy to follow and I applied the touch up and left for the full 10 minutes and rinsed off as instructed.
The colour was ok, a bit brassy to be honest and not a match but wasn’t too obvious on my colour. It says it will last up to 3 weeks so will wait and see on that. Didn’t make my hair feel yucky even for a permanent colour.
All in all, not a bad root touch up, not great and really on the fence as to whether I’d use it again to beg honest - the things that would put me off are the price and the amount you get.
I had previously used Clairol Nice ‘n Easy in #8 medium blonde, which was awesome, so when I got the invite to trial this product I was super excited. Comes with everything you need, a wee brush, gloves, and a bowl, lots of plastic, unfortunately, but no need to go hunting for supplies. Instructions are pretty simple to follow, though I was immediately disappointed to discover it is meant for your most visible roots. There’s just not enough for your whole head of hair. Makes sense when the product is called “Root Touch Up”, but for some reason I really thought I could do it all. I could not. The product smells as you would expect hair dye to smell. I always dye my hair with a fan on because the fumes sting my eyes. I left the product in for about 15 minutes, and washed it out with my own hair care products as there was nothing left in the box for aftercare. I do like the result, it lightened my darker blonde nicely to blend in with the previous dye job. It was definitely a quick and easy process, though I think the next time I will just got for the whole head of hair so I can do space buns and things without worrying about darker roots.
